John Krasinski: No One Can Replace Steve Carell on 'The Office'
John Krasinski is the featured interview in the upcoming issue of
Parade, where the shaggy-haired actor reveals how he really feels about
Steve Carell's impeding departure from their beloved TV show, 'The Office.'
"[It's been] completely bittersweet," Krasinski told the magazine. "It's an insanely special relationship we have with each other on the show, and Steve's leaving is the first time we've been snapped out of it and had to think about how much we all rely on each other."
Carell, who shot his last episode of 'The Office' earlier this month, is leaving to pursue his movie career. "No one can replace him. That goes for him as an actor, because no one has the sense of humor he does, but also there's no person who has his incredible positivity and professionalism, and just a really good heart," he continued. "So we're losing a friend first and foremost."
So that the show won't lose steam post-Carell, funnyman
Will Ferrell is guest starring on several episodes this season. And Krasinski is pysched. "I am the biggest fan of Will's and always have been. Other than Steve [Carell], he's probably the biggest star we've had on the show, and I think he's the type of person who fits into that world. Yes, he's Will Ferrell, but he's so talented he can slide in as a normal person," Krasinski said.
Interestingly, the guest stint was Ferrell's idea, Krasinski reveals. "[It] was his idea. He's such a fan of the show, and he knew we would be in a tight spot, and he wanted to help relieve the tension in a way. So he called our producers, and asked if they could ever use him to step in. It speaks volumes about him as a person. He wants to make sure that the show doesn't get hurt in this big transition," Krasinski said.

EVERY1 is replaceable! Steve,Charlie,Obama...
Agree. Maybe if they did replace Carell the show would be more watchable. I gave it 3 tries and couldn't stomach Carell. Even a pathetic character needs to be likeable.
John's right. No one can replace Steve. He is one of a kind and is the soul of this show. omg. "The Office" will never be the same.

John the "heart." Steve the "soul."

I've got news for you John..You are the number one reason I watch!! Steve plus the writers of that show are my number two reason. I think its so clever and unique. As long as they can keep up the writing and the wonderful relationship between Pam and Jim, the office dynamics between Dwight and Jim, I see no problem. I will definately miss Steve,I love him and he can not be replaced, and I hope they dont even try. They will do better by being creative with a different kind of boss. I know people were concerned when Shelley Long left Cheers, and Kirstie was great and very different. When Michael J.Fox left Spin city and Charlie Sheen came on board, it was still good. Different, but good. The cast of The Office is so strong, they can do it!! I will still watch...especially as long as John K. is on, what a terrific and gifted actor, not to mention what a cutie!!

Love "Jim" and the whole show but I think Cathryn (sp?) Bates would be a little hurt not to be considered the biggest guest star on the show. (chuckling) LOVE the Will Ferrel move but yah, it won't be the same with out Carrell. Proof? The british version SUCKS!

"No one can replace Steve Carrell..." ...but the idiots at NBC will certainly try! Why must we run everything into the ground?! The show has run it's course already anyhow. His exit is the perfect opportunity to end it, and end it on a (sort of) high note.
PS - Keeping it going also sort of spoils the purchase decision for the inevitable "Office DVD Box Set." Who wants to buy that when the last season totally sucks?

I don't think or hope his character will ever be replaced. Michael Scott is Michael Scott! Steve Carell puts his own spin on his character (s) and that's what makes him special. I will miss him. It won't be the same without him. Not too crazy about Will Ferrell stepping in. I think they could've chosen some other celeb. I still think Craig Ferguson would be great, but with his late night show, I doubt that it's a possibility.
I guess we just have to wait and see what happens. It took me a while to warm up to The Office in the beginning, but glad I gave it a chance. No regrets here.
