Mel Gibson Celebrates Birth of Third Grandchild

Mel Gibson has a little something to celebrate.

The actor, who recently pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery charges stemming from incidents with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, is a grandfather for the third time, PEOPLE reports.

Gibson's daughter Hannah gave birth to a son, and according to a friend, Mel "was overwhelmed with emotion."

"He gets that way around babies. ... He was overjoyed," the friend added.

As part of his plea bargain, the Oscar winner will receive no jail time.

He was charged after months of investigation by sheriff's detectives into a January 2010 incident where Gibson allegedly "willfully and unlawfully" used violence against Grigorieva during a heated argument.

Gibson got probation for three years and was ordered to attend 52 weeks of counseling in a domestic violence program. He was also ordered to do 16 hours of community service and pay a small fine. The judge said he would continue the psychological "treatment" he's currently receiving as well.

Gosh-I hope you get to be a grandma, too. Just don't let Mel near the kid. He's a drunken, misogynistic, bigoted, violent man with a huge sense of his own importance. Maybe he and Charlie Sheen can share a padded room(if there is one big enough to hold their mammoth egoes).

I hope you get to be a grandmother too. I am one to 2 cuties, the great thing about being a grandma, is you spoil them rotten, then give them back to mom.

Maybe someday we'll both get to be grandmas! Just remember, if we're that blessed, our grandkids will be led by OUR goodness and OUR example. Not some celebrity on popeater.

I think we should not be so judgmental facts can be misconstrued, and the media is not always clear or true with the facts. Unless we were there or have had the opportunity to be in his presence, we are only judging by what the media reports and information that we don't know is totally true or not.

I'm happy that things turned out well for him. Happy on his having another grandchild. I feel he has been made the vilified long enough. We should give others the benefit of the doubt and let them redeem themselves and stay out of their private affairs.

Are you kidding Claudia? It's impossible to misconstrue some of the terrible things he was recorded saying.

Give Mel a break. He paid for the broad's new teef.
