Pete Wentz Talks Split From Ashlee Simpson

Rocker Pete Wentz only had nice things to say when dished about his relationship with soon-to-be ex-wife Ashlee Simpson on Ryan Seacrest's KISS FM radio show.

"Ashlee's been my best friend for five years. She's the mother of my child," Wentz said. "I have nothing but love and respect for her."

Wentz, 31, married Simpson, 26, in 2008, and they have a 2-year-old son, Bronx. Simpson filed for divorce in February, and the couple is currently figuring out a custody agreement.

Going through a divorce is never easy, especially in the public eye, but Wentz and Simpson are trying their best to make things easy for their son.

"I think that one of the things, the hardest thing, when you're a public profile [is] to maintain your private life, and you wanna do it especially when there's a kid involved," Wentz said.

He added that he's grateful there's another story dominating Hollywood headlines these days.

"It's like the one time on earth I'm like, 'Thank God Charlie Sheen exists,'" he said.

Wentz continued, adding that he hopes he and Simpson can continue to remain friends for their son's sake.

"Going through something like this isn't easy, but we're friends and the most important thing is to put our son first."

And so far, things seem to be working. The pair have been spotted around LA together with Bronx, most recently picking up some fast food together during the weekend.

Wentz is a proud papa when it comes to talking about his son, adding that "everything's a new new discovery for him."

"His new thing is hiding cell phones and credit cards and stuff," he said. "I'm like, 'So where's dad's cell phone?' And he laughs. He thinks it's like a comedy bit."
