With Andrew Garfield stepping into Toby Maguire's tights as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, filming on 'The Amazing Spider-Man' continues, amid a web of rumors about the reboot's plot surprises.Despite last fall's news that Rhys Ifans was joining the cast as a villain character, there's been no official word from producers about who Spidey's nemesis in the upcoming movie will be.
But thanks to a recent RetroRadio podcast, MovieWeb has discovered '80s heartthrob C. Thomas Howell ('The Outsiders,' 'Soul Man'), being quite chatty with his insider information as a supporting cast member in the new Spider-Man film.
In this interview excerpt, the 44-year-old actor confirms that Spidey will battle the Lizard:
"There is not a whole lot to talk about," Howell begins, before revealing script details. "Sony wants us to be hush-hush right now. I play a relatively small role. I play a construction worker whose son is caught in the middle of a battle between the Lizard and Spider-Man on the Manhattan bridge. Spider-Man helps me get my son back from this perilous situation."
Hinting about how the film ends, Howell adds, "There is some payback there at the end of the movie. Spider-man is kind of hurting. I help him when all of the other people won't. Part of the story is, the nation thinks he might be a bad guy. They don't know what to think. Because of my experience on the bridge with my kid, I know he is a good guy. I pitch in and help out at the end."

C. Thomas Howell--didn't his career go into the toilet after "Soul Man"?
Reply
Howell has made at least 125 movies since Soul Man. From the ones I've seen...C. Thomas Howell played C. Thomas Howell in every one of them. He HAS no character range.
he's in Southland=excellent show!
He was quite good as a killer on "Criminal Minds" 2 seasons ago.
Wow sounds like this movie already sucks real good!! Going back to the beginning is boring and stupid. The guy playing spiderman looks like spidermans little sister. And the story is lame! I wont waste a dime on this lame a** movie!!!

Well no need in seeing the movie now, thanks Mr. Howell!

What a DOUCHE! No wonder no one will hire you. Giving up the main villian before the studio wants you to is not a very good idea.

So we have to deal with another remake of a remake of a remake. The last spider-man movie was horrible and we do not need to revisit something that is less then a hundred years old.The useless hollywood writers needs to go over to Japan and throw themselves in to the reactor to help plug the holes in the containment unit.Because as far as I can tell thats about all they are good for.

Why can't they pick someone cute to play Spiderman?

C. Thomas Howell portrayed Tom Chamberlain, brother of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain of the 20th Maine, in the movies Gettysburg and Gods & Generals.

Not sure if it was a secret. I had already heard the new bad guy was Lizard. I cant even remember where I heard it but it was a while ago. Who cares anyway? Not like it wouldnt get out at some point.

This isn't news. Rhys have been confirmed as playing the Lizard for months. The IMDb entry was changed and several other REPUTABLE blogging sites have also confirmed it. Way to go...(not)

If they couldn't get anyone better than Howell for this movie, then this craptacular is going to suuuu-uuck.
