Lady Gaga's mission to create a more tolerant culture extends to everyone, even much-maligned YouTube sensation Rebecca Black.
Black, a 13-year-old whose heavily Auto-Tuned single, 'Friday,' has generated an overwhelmingly negative response from Internet users across the world, is getting some unlikely support from Mother Monster herself.
During the Q+A section of 'Google Goes Gaga,' the 'Born This Way' singer said, "I say Rebecca Black is a genius and that anybody telling her she's cheesy is full of s**t."
Gaga, who has been outspoken in her anti-bullying efforts, admitting that she herself was bullied at school, said of the dangers of our highly critical and tech-savvy culture, "I, too, am a child of the dot-com era... That's the thing about fame that is difficult because if you screw up ... Google. It's there."
Above style or shock value, Gaga says that if she could choose what people would remember about her decades from now, it would be, "Her music gave me an identity when I didn't belong."
Albert Einstein might be considered a genius, I don't think I consider many musicians genius except Beethoven and a few others. That's the problem with the POP world their over inflated sense of self worth.
Well, her song blows, but seeing as though it has garnered millions of hits, been the talk of entertainment and radio shows, and landed her on the Tonight Show, as much as I hate to say it, she actually IS a genius.
No the girl is not the genius, she is just an instrument. The guy who wrote the song for her is the genius. The song is so bad it's good. The catchy line "Friday, Friday" gets stuck in your head. That is why it is so popular. Nothing to do with the girl, could have been any other teen girl. Same results would have happen. It's all about marketing, not about talent or music anymore.
1. If you don't like someone's music, just don't listen to it. No need to be so hateful, kids. 2. Liked or not, people living their dreams is always cool. As long as no one's getting hurt, and laws aren't broken. haha 3. This girl took A LOT of abuse. Gaga calling her a genius will hopefully pick up her spirits some.
This lady duh-duh is obviously desperate for attention, like so many other CERTAIN celebrities in the news lately, and I'm frankly tired of hearing about them, reading about them, and the people like R-duddy who think it's okay.
If u watched an interview and heard her sing the national anthem...then you know she actually is a pretty good singer. I suspected that much just from watching the music video which I can't stand but she does have talent.
"Cyber-Bullied" is the wrong term. This video wasn't just stolen from her iPhone and distributed to antagonize her. She released herself and put herself out there to be judged. People are not bashing her, herself, they are bashing her music, which is done everyday to experienced (and more talented) musicians all the time. This is a reality check, sweetie.
It makes me laugh when people try and justify their actions like that.
Yes, she made the choice to put the video and song out there for speculation... but it's still not okay for people to tell her that they hope she cuts herself soon and then goes anorexic so she could actually be pretty. That's not okay. That IS cyber-bullying. Not reality. It amazes me that so many people are this stupid to say she's just getting a "reality" check. Please, get a brain.
This was put out of context here. The person asked if Gaga had heard Rebecca's song and referred that it has been very critisized, but this was to introduce her question which was if Gaga thought youtube is a good way to get into the music business. To this she replied that youtube is a good way of introducing musicians to the world and gave hers (Gagavision, the youtube series that showed her travelling through the country doing promotional shows and interviews for The Fame) and Maria Aragon's example. She then said that quote, but the way you put it was out of context.
If Lady Gaga was quoted correctly above, I think her intention was to make this young girl feel validated after being so villified about her video. The cyber world would be much better off if everyone would practice the old addage, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything."
It never ceases to amaze me that people are so quick to be critical on a relatively innocuous tune performed by a teenybopper girl. For Rebecca Black to release this on YouTube, then quickly run up 22M views, not to mention an appearance on Leno-how many of these self appointed music critics claim the same success? So chill with the negative vitrolic barbs, and just let the kid enjoy herself. Don't like the song? Have someone teach you how to get out of YouTube.
All this shows is how vapid and useless Lady Gaga truly is. To label the putrid mediocrity of Rebecca Black as "genius" exposes Gaga for the fraud she is.

While cyber bullying is wrong, it's quite a leap to say Rebecca Black is now a "genius." Objectively speaking, her music is still horrible.

Well.. I wouldn't go as far as to say 'genius' considering she had nothing to do with the song other than sing it.
