Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor was laid to rest Thursday afternoon in an intimate ceremony at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California, The Associated Press reports. About four dozen family members attended the funeral that lasted an hour, Glendale police spokesman Tom Lorenz said.

Four stretch limousines transported Taylor's family to and from the funeral. Per Jewish customs (she converted before her wedding to Eddie Fisher in the late '50s,) she was buried within 48 hours of death.

Though barricades were set up in the cemetery to insure privacy, helicopters and new vans surrounded the cemetery and dozens of fans paid their respects outside the gates.

Forest Lawn Cemetery is also the final resting place for several other Hollywood icons including Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Walt Disney, Nat King Cole and Taylor friend, Michael Jackson.
