Garth Brooks Reveals the Secrets to a Happy Marriage

Garth Brooks took time out from signing autographs, posing for photographs and
performing at the Points of Light Foundation's March 21 celebration in Washington, D.C., to offer advice to
engaged couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert on the secrets to a happy marriage.
Brooks and Trisha Yearwood just celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary back in December.
"If you are going to talk to anybody about anything, talk to your spouse," Brooks tells The Boot. "That's it. No matter what. Even if it's about your spouse, it's all about communication. That's the secret."
Another secret Yearwood shared is that when she and Brooks married they made a vow to cherish his teenage daughters Taylor, August and Allie. The five of them always celebrate Garth and Trisha's wedding anniversary together.
"When we got married five years ago, we married the girls," stepmom Yearwood tells
PEOPLE of Brooks' daughters from his first marriage. "So the five of us always celebrate together."
Last year, Brooks, Yearwood and the girls spent the big evening watching the Disney movie, 'Tangled,' at a theater near their home in Oklahoma.
"We all talked about it and said, 'Let's go see a movie'," Yearwood said. "We all actually really want[ed] to see it."
The previous year, the family had to change anniversary plans at the last minute because of a schedule conflict -- and it wasn't Garth's.
"We had a big night planned and at the last minute they moved the youngest one's Christmas carol program to that night," Garth told PEOPLE magazine. "I promised them a big, fancy dinner, but we went and grabbed McDonald's fries and went home."
By the way, President George H.W. Bush, in whose honor the Points of Light event was held, has been married to wife Barbara for 66 years.

Ummm, too bad he didn't discover this "secret" in his first marriage.

I was just about to make the same post, lol.
Ditto, LOL.
thats true
I guess it's trade in your old wife for a new one. People do not forget, even if he did.

I guess the dummy is saying you have to frak up the 1st marriage in order to get the 2nd marriage right.

Hey GB, how about don't have sex with men and pretend you never did . . . (been rumored in the biz for some time now)

COnsidering his 2nd wife was the "other woman" during his first marriage, maybe he is not the best person to give advise. 5 yrs?? Maybe he should wait another 20 before he writes a book.

I've never liked Garth Brooks, I am a photographer and I ran into him in a bar in TN and tried to take his photo and he covered his hand over my lens. Then I started to ask a question about his relationship and he covered his other hand over my mouth and said "hush up and respect my privacy!" What a jerk!

Doesn't sound like he'd granted you an interview, so who's the jerk here? You stuck a camera in his face and then questioned his personal life. Like him or not, you deserved what you got!
Sounds like you were the only jerk there. I knew Garth for about 5 years while my friend was dating one of his band members. He was honestly a very nice man. He did get a bad rap because of how he started with Trisha. I can tell you that when I knew him, he and his wife barely spoke. I'm glad he found happiness even though he should have got a divorce first.
LOL at Eric! That's great. Woulda like to seen it. You photo paparazzi people are ridiculous and I'm glad you got the wrath of Garth!
Why didn't he know the 'secret' and use it with his first wife? I do not listen to people who have been divorced. They would have NOTHING relevant or worthwhile to say about marriage.

Yeah, I think I would go to someone who hasn't cheated while having a family to find out how to have a successful marriage. Their cute children stories don't sit well on the stomach since she helped to break up the family unit. I'm just sayin'...

I agree, he had or started seeing Trisha while still married, that is a cheating husband.

Once a cheater, always a cheater. He should have learned with his first wife, the one that stood by him during the hard times, blessed him with a family and remained faithful. Marriage isn't always easy but some choose the easy way out.
