After Contractions, Mariah Carey Back Home From Hospital

With two babies on board, Mariah Carey has been practicing lullabies and eagerly anticipating the arrival of twins. Still, she expressed a double dose of surprise this weekend when it looked like her new little daughter and son, with husband Nick Cannon, were about to show up early.

The Grammy winner, 42, had a false alarm this weekend and sought medical attention, according to PEOPLE. Afterward, she tweeted about the escapade with relief.

In the early morning hours of her March 27 birthday, Carey told her followers on Twitter that the twins "really wanted 2 celebrate w/us/share the anniversary!" She added, "I started having contractions last night...went 2 the hospital."

Her next updates on Twitter read, "Finally they said I could come home after they got it under control but...They almost came on 3/27- happy anniversary in deed!!! We have a few more weeks 2 go but- wow!!!" Carey added the hashtag #soreadyallready!

Mothers carrying twins commonly deliver before the full 40-week gestation period typical of a single pregnancy, according to WebMD.

Earlier this week, Carey's husband Nick Cannon, 30, did some tweeting about the impending delivery, seeming more than doubly amazed that two children would soon be in his arms.

"I am probably going to faint in the delivery room! I need to man up!" Cannon told Twitter followers. "Or maybe I should say WOMAN UP, since they are the ones that have to be the strongest in the whole ordeal!"

He continued, "I am in awe of my wife!"

The couple married in 2008. They announced the pregnancy in October, revealed in December that they are expecting twins and confirmed last month that the twins are a boy and a girl. Carey and Cannon are unquestionably excited to finally hold the babies and name them. Stay tuned!

um she's not 42 today is he 41st birthday. it's not like it would've been dangerously early if the twins had arrived now she's 36 or 37 weeks along but her doctors want to air on theside of caution which is to be expected as the twins could be her only children it shouldn't be too long now at least the contractions were able to be stopped considering she's got to have a c-section instead of the ntural birth she had wanted

Wow. NEver realized "Mimi" was 42. Good for her for post-poning having youngsters in lieu of having a career; and gaining a maturity not always there at 20. And her hubby sounds just so caring and wise for realizing exactly WHO DOES all that work in the delivery suite!!! Good luck and best- to both!!

she isn't 42 she lied about her age when she first came out. having a child/children at her age is nothing new academy award winner Audrey Hepburn had her youngest son Luca at 41 in 1970 and nobody made a big deal about it then. so why is it a big deal that Mariah is having her twins at 41 give her a break she miscarried before.
