Reese Witherspoon Skipped the White Dress at Her Wedding

Details are still trickling out from Reese Witherspoon's star-studded wedding this past weekend--and perhaps the most surprising is the color of her wedding dress! UsMagazine.com reports the 'How Do You Know' actress wore pink when she tied the knot with agent Jim Toth on Saturday.

The Academy Award-winner wore a pale pink, strapless gown custom-designed by Monique Lhuillier. Witherspoon also wore satin Jimmy Choo platform sandals. The groom wore a gray Rag & Bone suit.

The bride didn't buck the white dress theme altogether though--Witherspoon changed into a short, white cocktail dress for the reception.

The Oscar winner wed Toth at a small ceremony at her ranch in Ojai, Calif. in front of 120 guests. Scarlett Johansson, Sean Penn, Tobey Maguire, Renee Zellweger and Alyssa Milano were among the A-listers at the rustic, country-themed event.

After a breakup with longtime boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal, Witherspoon began dating her groom in January 2010. Toth -- a Pennsylvania native who's employed at one of Hollywood's top talent agencies, but has reportedly never represented Witherspoon -- popped the question in December with a 4-carat, $250,0000 engagement ring.

This is Toth's first marriage. The bride's first marriage, to Ryan Phillippe, lasted seven years, ending in 2006.

Good for Reese--southern girls remember etiquette rules from growing up, and even though 2nd (or more) marriages no longer demand non-white, her gesture was great!

Didn't the white dress custom mean that the bride was a virgin? If so, virtually no girl today would wear a white dress - unless they marry at 12, maybe?

Supposedly only virgins wear white wedding gowns. Probably nobody would qualify. Tradition has been blue for subsequent weddings, but pink is lovely.

Thank goodness the tradition of only virgins wearing white is gone. We don't hold men to that same standard. Good bye to such riduclous traditions.

Actually, the tradition of a white gown goes back to ancient Rome where the color was affiliated with joy.

The veil actually has more to do with representing virginity than the gown. :-)
