'Monsters Inc. 2' Gets a New Title

'Monsters Inc. 2' is still happening and slated for 2012, but now it's called
'Monsters University.'
As previously rumored, the animated sequel will instead be a prequel that tracks the origins of Mike and Sully's relationship all the way back to their time at the University of Fear, where at first they were enemies before becoming the bestest of friends.
Casting hasn't been confirmed, though it's likely Billy Crystal and John Goodman will return to voice Mike and Sully.
Knowing Pixar, they'll add a whole new set of monster characters, while bringing on some fun talent to voice those characters. It's a great idea, really, to go with the university angle because they've mined all the professional monster jokes, and now they can go Police Academy-style with tons of monster-in-training jokes. The classes, the exercises, the obnoxious teachers -- since the first one was so clever in its storytelling and execution, we hope the folks at Pixar really spread out their imagination wings with this one.
Sure, it's another sequel (or in this case prequel), but 2012 is also giving us an original Pixar movie with 'Brave,' so as long as they mix originals in there with the sequels and prequels, we won't complain as much. Thoughts on 'Monsters University'?

My daughter and I love the first movie, Monsters, Inc. We watch it together at least once a month. Can't wait for this one!

But will Randall be back? That's what I want to know!

PIXAR never disappoints (except for maybe a Bug's Life which was just ok) and even if its a prequel I think it will still be outstanding. They always know how to make the perfect film for both kids and adults. Toy Story 3 was one of the best movies that came out last year.

Looking forward to both the Monsters sequel and Cars 2. I really hope this means that they'll be looking towards making a sequel for Finding Nemo soon.

Monsters Inc. is my favorite films of all time and I have waited patiently for the sequel for years. However - this is not the sequel I've been holding out for. I want to move forward with the story - not backwards. Prequels are almost always disastrous and by what I just finished reading - Monsters University will disappoint too! Why not go forward when the original left so much hanging. Surely the current writers can't be that terrible at Pixar? Monsters University sounds like a great idea for a video game in the realm of merchandising. Let's get back to Boo. It's been 10 years since we all fell in love with her character.

Monster Inc. is one of the best kids flick of all time. I still watch it from time to time, and not always with my 3 grandkids! I can't wait to see the prequel. I really hope John & Billy both do it. If you haven't seen the original, get it, it is so worth it.
