L.A. Reid Announces Cheryl Cole as New 'X Factor' Judge

Cheryl Cole has the X factor -- so much so that she has signed on as the newest judge of the U.S. version of Simon Cowell's hit reality competition show.

According to 'X Factor' judge L.A. Reid, former Girls Aloud singer Cole will join him and Cowell to weed out hopefuls in search of America's most talented performers.

"We're gonna compete against 'American Idol' just fine," says Reid. "I'm very confident. But along with Simon Cowell and Cheryl, I don't know who the other judge is."

Rumors have been swirling about who will join the panel of judges.

Everyone from Taylor Momsen to Nicki Minaj and, more recently, Lily Allen, have been suggested as potential judges, although none of them have confirmed their participation on the show.

This morning, Allen tweeted, "nice to know that i'm 80% confirmed to be a judge on xfactor, anyone thinking about running it by me ?" She cheekily followed up by saying, "i'll only do it if there's a 'pop songs in a foreign language week.'"

Simon Cowell please stop trying to shove your no talent hack friend down the US's collective throat. If she was as good as you say, we would have already recognized said talent.

i just googled some of her songs & and she is pretty much what i thought but couldn't verify because no one in the states talks about her. really really pretty, kind of lame, very typical but nothing special. meh. they could do better

Taylor Momsen? She parlayed a t.v. role into a singing career... what would that twit say or relevance to performing acts? She'd just talk about herself.

umm, have you ever heard this Cheryl Cole lady talk? it's all, i'm a victim, poor me, blah blah blah. she is SO annoying. i'd rather cut off my ears than listen to her talk about herself being misunderstood. whatever! save it for the UK. she is boring and no one i know even knows who she is, OR would want to take advice from her!!

I thought the show was looking for talented, high profile judges? Um... who the hell is Cheryl Cole???

i KNOW! who cares what she's done in Britain?!? NO ONE knows who she is here!! i mean seriously, i thought this was X Factor US. not some corny two bit replication of the X Factor UK. uuugh! if that's the case why bother watching this one?!
