You don't have to say a whole lot about the possibility of one of the craziest celeb photographers playing one of the most infamous killers of all time. Tyler Shields will make a quick transition from his reality-esque TV show to the big screen to direct and star as Charles Manson in a gritty biopic titled 'Eyes of a Dreamer.'
We're hoping that Shields, known for his intensely intimate shoots with celebrities, will take that power to the screen. We're just a little worried that a real tattoo might grace his head soon. Check out what Tyler had to say about the role.
How did you get involved with this project?
It was a Twitter conversation between me and the producer (Brad Weinmen).
What inspired you to take on the role of Charles Manson?
I'd been writing a movie with a character that was a crazy character also, but this was something different for me. ... If it's going to be me, it's got to be crazy.
Why the move to the big screen?
I've always wanted to do movies, but it's a matter of the right one coming at the right time, and this one feels right.
What would be your next character to play?
Everyone knows that I'm crazy, and they all have this crazy vision of me. A friend said that I need to do a romantic comedy or some sort of comedy. ... It's all about me being able to do what I want to do, how I want to do it, in the craziest way possible.
Who would you like to see play the female roles in the movie?
I'd love to see Amanda Seyfried, Evan Rachel Wood or Emma Stone in these roles. My whole thing is, any girl who's in this movie is going to be seen in such a powerful, dynamic way. You have no idea how crazy these girls really were.
I agree -- I have always thought Russell looked like Manson, especially with those crazy-person eyes!I don't know if he could break the English accent though, and I doubt he's capable of pulling off any serius/gritty roles.
By now, EVERYBODY has probably read "Helter Skelter", or seen the movie, or seen A movie about Charlie Manson. What is the point to making another movie and glorifying this fruit, except to cause pain to the victims' survivors?
NOBODY should have ANYTHING at all to do with ANY television portrayal of Manson. That waste-of-skin, disgusting, EVIL EVIL EVIL man should be buried forever in the collective minds of humanity. Just talking about him elevates him to human being status. If you want to know about him, if you want to know the whole story, you SHOULD be reading Vincent Bugliosi's (the prosecuter in the case) book about same. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
I think the fact that you all feel strongly about this is what is key. With all respect to the survivors, this story is a part of American history all the way to presidential history. I was reticent about it as well at first but we should be able to discuss and own our history as a nation especially it's mistakes and lost souls. I'm not speaking on Manson's behalf, but rather on the behalf of Art. And, from what I know and have seen of Tyler Shields this film will be a worthwhile project...
Amanda Seyfried, Evan Rachel Wood and Emma Stone would never be in a movie with a no talent photographer like this guy pretending to be an actor. Is he delusional? or CRAZY!
Charles Manson was a psychopath, and even though I hate that he's getting attention, one should never forget what he and his followers did. They were atrocities, and none of them had any conscience or empathy whatsoever. They still haven't found all the bodies he left behind. Before seeing any movie about him and his "family", one should read Bugliosi's book on it first.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Why remake the movie? What is Hollywood thinking?

WHY MEMORIALIZE THIS STONE COLD BLOODED MURDERER. WHY GIVE OTHERS IDEAS THEY MAY NOT HAVE. WHY CREATE MORE STRESS AND ANGER IN OUR COUNTRY.
