Meredith Vieira Expected to Leave 'The Today Show'

Looks like Matt Lauer might lost another co-host. Meredith Vieira will most likely step down as co-anchor of 'Today' when her contract expires in September, according to a new report from TV Guide.

Vieira is apparently "beloved" by the 'Today' cast and crew, but a combination of long, tiring hours and personal struggles (her husband is battling multiple sclerosis and cancer) are likely the reason why she'd leave. Vieira would only sign a one-year deal when her contract expired last year, and has been open about her husband's health problems.

However, NBC doesn't want to see her go. "NBC is doing everything they can to convince her to stay," an insider told TV Guide.

The former 'View' panelist joined Matt Lauer on 'Today' after Katie Couric left to anchor the CBS Evening News. Just yesterday, word came that Couric would step down from her post to host a daytime talk show when her contract is up in June.

NBC responded to TV Guide via statement, saying "The 'Today' show anchors are currently under contract and firmly in place."

When Vieira does leave 'Today' -- whether that's in September or a year after that -- Ann Curry, the show's current news anchor, will likely replace her.

Ann Curry is horrible! She is a terrible interviewer. I hope they would choose Natalie Morales over her!

Ann Curry is the WORST!! I will never watch the Today show again if she takes over for Meredith.

Does that make sense to anyone? Sometimes these writers work too fast and don't check what they write. GRRR... It's a pet peeve.

I like Meredith and would hate to see her leave. She has been off the show a lot lately and I thought it could be her husband's health. Please not Ann Curry. She can read the news but she can not interview. She is dull.

I can understand her situation. I too have Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and the amount of things that I have to be super careful about, plus the regular daily needs just to maintain my well being is overwhelming. I hope that both are fine. The caretakers responsibility is twice that of just being a spouse.

NOT ANN CURRY!! She is the most annoying, condescending interviewer on television! I hate when she interviews for a sad story--the insincerity is so apparent--I can't even watch. And how she flirts with men she's interviewing...retch! I will never watch that show again if she is the co-anchor...

I like Meredith but i quit watching Today because of their radically liberal agenda and basically NBC sucks, and after the way Curry treated Hillary Clinton and about got down on her knees to Obama she made me so sick i could never watch Today again, so I just switched networks.
