Country Star Chely Wright Engaged to Girlfriend

Just eleven months after coming out, country singer Chely Wright is engaged to girlfriend and gay rights activist, Lauren Blitzer, PEOPLE reports.

"Out country singer Chely Wright and her fiancée, Lauren Blitzer, a GLBT Civil Rights activist have set a date and plan to be married in Connecticut Aug. 20," Wright's rep told the magazine. "They met through their youth advocacy work, and say that their passion for Scrabble holds them together."

After years of keeping her sexuality secret for fear of ruining her career in country music, Wright came out on the cover of PEOPLE last May.

"The freedom of being out and open about who I am allowed me to find and fall in love with Lauren," Wright told PEOPLE, "the most amazing woman I've ever known."

E!Online.com reports the couple will marry on an estate owned by Blitzer's aunt in front of 200 people. "It's been a really exciting time," the 40-year-old star told the website. "We fit so well. And the best part is that our families go so beautifully together."

The couple also talked about having children. "We want a family," Wright told E!. "The benefit of being out is I get to have everything that everyone else has. I do want a family and I do want traditional things. I just had no idea it would happen so quickly. I feel like it was a blessing from God."

It's no one's business and it's no one's place to condemn or look down your nose at anyone who's happy with their lives and not hurting anyone by doing it. It isn't my lifestyle but these days, people are who they are despite what YOU might wish them to be. The sooner you realize that, the happier you'll be and the happier they'll be as well. No one has ever done anyone else any good by being negative and miserable towards them. Life's way too short for that.
