Mariska Hargitay Adopts a Baby Girl

'Law & Order: SVU' star Mariska Hargitay is a new mom! The television star and her husband, actor Peter Hermann, have adopted a baby girl, PEOPLE reports. Amaya Josephine was born about a week ago and is from the United States.

"I'm deliriously happy," the 47-year-old star told PEOPLE. "From the minute she was born, she was just surprisingly alert and so full of love."

"We were considering both international and domestic adoption and we're thrilled that this is the way our prayers were answered," she added. "We talked a lot about mixed-race adoptions, and we are very excited that we are now a multi-racial family. We're just so happy she's here."

The new parents aren't to the only ones excited about the new addition. Hargitay reveals her 4-year-old son, August, is thrilled too!

"He is over the moon. He calls her his baby because he says the whole thing was his idea. He always talks about how he's going to protect her. He's going to be a great big brother," she said.

This baby is going into a loving home and will have a good life and so what if it is a child of color. It needs a loving home regardless of who adopts it and to have Mariska and Peter as parents and a cute brother, G-d Bless them all....

If a couple of color isn't available to adopt this child, would you rather she went into foster care, possibly going from home to home, never really belonging? And maybe along the way she can meet the horrible things that can happen to foster children. Or maybe she can stay with her biological mother, who may not be able to care for her. Let's give her a chance. She is going to a couple who want this new person. She is going to be loved and protected - especially from people like you.
