Report: Matt Lauer Leaving 'Today Show'

First Meredith Vieira, now Matt Lauer. Reports are surfacing that the longtime anchor will soon leave NBC's 'Today.'

According to 'Entertainment Tonight,' Lauer will leave the top-rated daytime show when his contract is up. However, don't panic just yet -- Lauer's under contract until Dec. 31, 2012.

NBC issued the following statement to the New York Post regarding the possible departure of both of 'Today''s anchors: "There seems to be an awful lot of speculation around news anchors these days, and it's not our practice to comment on any of it. Matt Lauer has a long-term contract with NBC News and 'Today.'"

Lauer has spent 13 years in the co-anchor seat, but he's been with 'Today' since 1994.

News of Lauer's intention to resign comes on the heels of widespread speculation regarding Vieira's departure after her contact expires in September 2011.

Lauer's former 'Today' co-host Katie Couric also made headlines for her expected June 2011 departure from 'CBS Evening News.' Couric is rumored to be looking at launching a daytime talk show with former NBC honcho Jeff Zucker.

Earlier this week a representative for 'Today' released this comment: "The 'Today' show anchors are currently under contract and firmly in place."

Hope Matt stays on longer. He's a pleasure to watch and very wily in his interviews. Remember how he patiently paved the way for Tom Cruise to go on a wild rant--and we could really see what was under Tom's shiny image? Matt is artful. Finally, he's had a smooth ride, out from under that showboating egotist Katie Couric and that arrogant curmudgeon Bryant Grumble. Now, Meredith Vierra is leaving, and Matt and Ann can hold down the fort with Al. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.

I have to agree with you as I hate to see any of them leave and I also enjoy Matt very mucy and love all of them together. Hate that Meredith has to leave for the reasons that she will be leaving for, her husband who is sick. So sad, but she will be back on a show one day, I am sure. There are three news programs on in the a.m. so if you don't like one, then look at another and be nice. Thanks.

Why is everyone so hateful? He is smart, charismatic, always on top of his game, dresses incredibly well and is brilliant! Not sure why everyone has to be so critical, his job is to get and deliver the news and he meets and exceeds the requirement.

Meredith has grown into her role quite well, I thought it wouldn't work without Katie but I love Meredith too!

I hope they all stay put, i moved from NJ to NC an watbching them made me less homesick...I Love them!
