'Real Housewives of D.C.' Canceled After One Season

It's been a bad year so far for Michaele Salahi, what with being
thrown out of 'Celebrity Rehab' for not being addicted to anything and now having her 'Real Housewives' series canceled by Bravo.
Rumors have been swirling for weeks that the series was in jeopardy, and now the
Washington Post reports that Bravo officially pulled the plug on the 'The Real Housewives of D.C.' Thursday.
According to the Post, the production company behind the series contacted the cast to let them know Washington's contribution to Bravo's reality TV franchise would not be picked up for a second season.
The cancellation makes 'D.C.' the first 'Housewives' series not to receive a second season. Andy Cohen, Bravo's executive vice president of original programming and development, said, "We had an amazing season and we told stories that were unique to any other in the franchise. I wish all our DC Wives the best and hope to work with them again in another capacity."
So, can we expect to see any of the 'D.C.' housewives in their own spin-off show
à la 'New York's
Bethenny Frankel? Cohen didn't elaborate, but confirmed that British 'Housewife' Cat Ommanney has already booked her next gig on Bravo, taking part in -- what else? -- Royal Wedding coverage. "Cat is booked on our April 28th 'Watch What Happens Live' Royal Wedding Spectacular," he said.
Does this spell the beginning of the end of 'The Real Housewives'? Bravo's money-spinner launched in 2006 with 'The Real Housewives of Orange County' and parlayed its heady high-drama mix of Botox, boobs, blonds and bitchiness into a franchise with versions in New York City, New Jersey, Atlanta, Beverly Hills, D.C. and Miami.
Cohen
has already confirmed that Miami is the last stop on the 'Housewives' train. It has not yet been picked up for a second season, but the 'O.C.' mothership has just kicked off its sixth season and 'Beverly Hills' was recently renewed. So the end's not in sight just yet.
'The Real Housewives of D.C.' launched to respectable ratings but never caught fire like its stablemates. One of the problems was that for viewers used to the hot tub-loving, wig-wearing drama queens and table-flippers of the other versions, the 'D.C.' housewives were simply a bit bland.
Cohen admitted the comparative demureness of the 'D.C.' show back in October when he told 'The Washington Post' that "It's less noisy. ... It's serious, it's politics. ... The level of discourse on this show is different. For people who expect to see table flipping or wig pulling, that was never going to happen on this show."

Good! I watched the first episode of DC, but once the racial issue was brought up by the black women I said ENOUGH of THAT! The Brit woman made the fatal mistake of expressing a criticism of Obama for not responding to her wedding invitation - she married his photographer, and Tyra Banks..OMG! That suddenly meant she was a racist! As far as Miami...really, I just cannot find anything interesting about them, so have not watched.

DC's was doomed with the Salahis, and NY's will never be the same without Betheny. Granted NJ's is fascinating for its Italian American flavor but OC's not so much, it has lost its luster with some of the latest obnoxious additions. But "The Miami Housewives", I couldn't get enough of this show. This first season was "pure entertainment" and a joy to watch and feel the heat of the tropics and the diversity and contrast between the women. We could't believe it was cut short due to a scheduling conflict but it will get picked up for a second and third season, we'll just watch and see. Can not wait!!!

It wasn't that they weren't glamorous enough...they simply weren't likable at all.

Glad to hear Housewives of DC got the boot but why haven't those obnoxious women of Atlanta been canned, too? They are horrid, and considering many of them are educated I find it disgusting to hear them lapse into slang. Despite their elegant homes, designer clothes and fancy cars they are crude and ignorant. And exactly how many of those women made it own their own achievments vs. the success and/or alimony from their ex-husbands? Phonies! They are the worst! I stopped watching after the first season.

ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE DC AREA IS DEADLY BORING!

THANK GOODNESS!!!! Now get rid of the rest of those nasty, "housewives". The American public has been fed enough insipid drivel from these self-absorbed, melodramatic, empty boxes.

I kicked Miami, Atlanta and DC to the curb after one shot...who could be interested in these people. I don't really like any of the NY gals but I watch...who knows why. I liked Bethany...period.

I hope they cancel Miami too. I can't understand a word they say.

Each one of these shows is more vapid than the next. I am amazed that women with money cannot find anything productive to do with their lives, or even to enjoy it. All they do is create drama with eachother because their souls are so empty.

They ALL need to go....all these shows are nothing but CRAP!

Now he needs to fire that fricken crazy Kelly from NY is she for real and why do they let her on? She's the reason many will stop watching, as well as Jill and that flusy Morgan biatch!!!!! I watch OC, NYC and Beverly Hills...I can't even stand the others. This may be me being naive, but what if there were a few episodes where the women were nice to each other and not lying, nasty b****es? I have 5 good girlfriends and we aren't evil to one another. Heck, I am even a teacher, so I work with about 60% women and we are never that horrible to one another...I guess you have to be a B to be on TV, no one want to see anyone nice. I honestly watch it to see the clothes and their homes and the places they go. I love all things NYC. I am enjoying Bethany’s show. It is based on good things rather than bad. Don’t cut that one BRAVO!

I don't know why they are called housewives. Some of them aren't even wives. I never really see them do any real parenting. All they seem to do is fight and scream at each other. I watched out of curiousity but end up feeling disgusted and disheartened. I think they all should go.

I found it difficult to get into the D.C. Housewives, but I definitely gave them a chance. I agree with the closing statements to the article. The D.C. women just weren't like those in other seasons. Something was missing. Sure, they had their cat fights, but they were not nearly as entertaining as the O.C. or New York women. In a time when politics seem so depressing, I go to Bravo for light-hearted entertainment. Not to watch a bunch of women bicker about whose husband has more power in D.C. or about political agendas. It just got old.
I do not think that the fate of the D.C. women will be the same as other seasons. I think that the original housewives, the O.C. women, have a strong, loyal following, and even as they add in a new members here and there, they remain as those quirky women that always keep viewers guessing.
