Dennis Quaid on Randy: 'I Love My Brother'

Dennis Quaid has been keeping busy promoting his new film 'Soul Surfer,' relocating with his wife and twins to Austin, Tex., and penning a piece for an upcoming issue of Newsweek (in which he'll reportedly describe both his 1970's drug abuse and 1990's road to recovery).

For an exclusive interview with PopEater last week, the 56-year-old Texan chatted about surfing, gardening and a major career regret: turning down the starring role in 'Big' that eventually went to Tom Hanks.

Now, after staying mum for months about his outlaw older brother, he's finally addressed Randy Quaid's antics with brief, brotherly remarks.

"I love my brother," Dennis told People.com, while speaking to the press on behalf of 'Soul Surfer.' He added, "That's all I can say. I love my brother and I miss my brother. That's all I'm going to say."

Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, are allegedly on the run in Canada, after multiple failures to appear in a California courtroom in an ongoing trespassing and vandalism case. The fugitive couple have insisted they are victims of persecution, and have blamed their woes on a conspiracy of life-threatening "star whackers." In a 2010 interview with 'Good Morning America,' Randy didn't mince words about his famous brother: "Dennis is now on a treadmill of making movies that are garbage, and it's unfortunate because he's talented."

In Vancouver last month, Randy unexpectedly found a musical outlet for his opinions. He hopped onto a rock club stage, according to the Hollywood Reporter, to belt out a hard-driving tune about "star whackers" -- check out the footage here:

Love it, Bubbles. That made me laugh. 20 or 30 yrs ago, my Mom and I would take a lunch break at a mall, and make fun of ugly babies. And the parents were clueless how ugly their babies were.

Hmmm, cathy, I can't figure if you're an addict, a thief/scammer, or simply an enabler. Throwing money at a problem doesn't solve the problem. Randy has made tons of money in his lifetime and it's up to him to take care of his own problems.

Randy in fact has probably made more money as an actor than Dennis he has done more main stream movies like the National Lampoon series. Dennis did a few and then went to the B list. I am willing to bet the whole problem with Randy centers on his wife and his family probably doesn't want to encourage his relationship with her. That's just my speculation.

Randy is a brilliant actor. Loved him in SNL and Catagory 6 and 7 as the crazy twister guy. And who could forget him in Independence Day. All the brilliant ones are a little crazy. I hope to see him in movies again someday soon.

It is not Dennis job to babysit Randy. Randy is an adult making bad choices. why would his brother throw money his way so he can contuine making the bad choices. Only thing that will save Randy is when he admits he has been his rocker and he starts taking adult blame for the actions he has done. Dennis is doing the right thing by offering his support and love. It is up to Randy to accept it and change or continue as he has been
