'Idol' May Not Even Allow Pia Toscano to Release CD
Just days after getting voted off 'American Idol' in shocking fashion, songstress Pia Toscano reportedly snapped up a record deal with Interscope Records, but sources tell me nothing has been signed as management looks into whether 19 Entertainment will allow her to release anything at all.
"When you compete on 'Idol,' you must sign one of the strictest contracts in the business," a former 'AI' contestant tells me. "Not only does 'Idol' own you for the entire show and live tour that follows, it also controls everything you can do professionally for a long period after that."
That means that 19 Entertainment has first crack at every artist.
Pia's rep told E! News over the weekend that all the talk about a done deal is "all rumor," but it's completely true that Interscope has big plans for the Queens native, if only they can get their hands on her.
As previously reported, Interscope is already calling every top songwriter and producer to get an album together and rush-release it before the end of the season, but none of this matters unless 'Idol' allows her to do it.
"No way do the producers want a contestant who was kicked off having a hit record when the winner hasn't even been announced yet," another 'Idol' insider tells me. "The first hit song has always been from the winner and this year will be no different."
If you start having singers who were voted off charting before the show has wrapped, then the entire process loses credibility, my source contends.
"This is about protecting the brand, not about protecting Pia," the insider says. "She can record as many songs as she wants, but 'Idol' will refuse to allow them to be released for now until the show is over."

well then ,that means we only have 8 or 9 weeks to go until we can buy her CD.....I will be the first to buy it. All they have left is screaming....growling....jumping all over the stage.....making faces ...snarling to be sexy, kind of singers left...except for Lauren....I have no desire to purchase anyone else's music but Pia's......
They already lost all credibility when she was voted off, let Pia have her record contract, i doubt if the remaining contestants are going to sell alot of records, maybe Scotty in country but that's it.

Pia is a wonderful vocal talent, but she is BORING. That is why America didn't vote for her. It takes more than a great voice to entertain people.
She sounds like a cabaret singer... and her name sounds like the new pasta at Pizza Hut.
Although, Pia is a decent singer, I don't get why all the hoopla over her. Pia would never have won American Idol. She is good, but boring. I think there are a couple more talented people still on idol that I can see making it. I heard Pia has a contract, so now it will be up to her to prove herself, but I don't see it. However, that is just my opinion and I have been wrong plenty of times. ;)

The entire process has already lost credibility. The show has been hijacked by underage girls who speed-dial for their favorite boy-band contestants. If AI cares about credibility, they should make it one vote per contestant per phone number.

I am done with American Idol!! I know it was America that voted Pia off, but she was the best one on the show. I think the whole process is stupid. America is not judging on talent, they judge on appearance, clothes, etc. The show is a farce. Thanks for opening my eyes AI, as I will NEVER watch again. Pia, good luck sweetie, cause you are full of talent and I know you have a bright future ahead of you. Cannot wait until you record, as I will buy anything you sing girl!!!

I agree with you 100% Kendra. Their voting systems sucks. I tried voting that night for Pia and couldn't get through. Continuously busy. Now does that sound right for somone who had the lowest votes? I do believe it has turned into a popularity contest - "Oh he's cute" Let's keep him on. Can't sing for crap, but sure looks good" So maybe she didn't move around much on stage. Does Streisand, Celine, Linda Ronstadt? Seems all the really GREAT singers don't move around much. And by the way people, she has done TWO up-tempo songs. How many has Celine done?
that makes no sense if it is about looks and appearance Pia would still be there. She is beautiful. She can sing but she is boring to watch sorry I think there are alot of good singers still left that actually perform on stage and do not just stand there
She's a robot, no grace on stage, I shall not miss her at all.

Of course it's a popularity contest. That's how contestants win... by popular vote. I don't know why everyone gets shocked when someone is not pulling in the votes. That's how the show has been from the beginning. It's called "American Idol" not "Most Talented American". DUH. Look up the definition of the word idol.
Look up the definition of the word "Idol" and you'll see that it has nothing to do with talent.
