Jerry Seinfeld Calls the Royal Wedding 'A Circus Act'

It looks like
Jerry Seinfeld is not a fan of the upcoming royal wedding. The actor had a few choice words for the upcoming event and even criticized the royal family in an interview.
The
Daily Mail is reporting that Seinfeld was in London promoting his upcoming stand-up performance and was being interviewed on the UK TV show '
Daybreak' when the interviewer asked Seinfeld if he, like many Americans, was looking forward to the wedding on April 29.
The comedian sarcastically replied, "Yes, I'm very excited."
He continued, "Well it's a circus act, it's an absurd act. You know, it's a dress-up. It's a classic English thing of let's play dress-up. Let's pretend that these are special people. OK, we'll all pretend that -- that's what theater is."
Seinfeld went on to say, "That's why the British have the greatest theater in the world. They love to dress up and they love to play pretend."
The 56-year-old comedian even took some shots at the royal family, "And that's what the royal family is -- it's a huge game of pretend. These aren't special people -- its fake outfits, fake phoney hats and gowns."
He concluded by saying, "It's fantastic. We don't have anything like that."
The co-host of 'Daybreak' Adrian Chiles appeared very offended by Seinfeld's opinion, remarking on-air, "I'll join in on any of that stuff [criticism of the wedding], if it's a Brit doing it. But I can't bear Americans criticizing the royal family."
Chiles also added, "He'll be doing that show from the Tower of London, never mind the O2 [the arena where Seinfeld is due to perform]."

Long live King Jerry for speaking the truth.
The British worship a family for no apparent reason. Don't you find that a bit weird?
Reply
Yeah, almost as weird as Americans who worship prostitutes and drug addicts.
Unless your British or maybe just well read then you wouldnt understand that our nation is founded in traditon, history and has been a royal empire for centuries.
Nations who do not have that fail to understand and demoralise it.
If you look at America for instance, over half of the people living there have descendants who travelled to the new world from European countries and almost all of them have a royal family who they look to as a historical and traditional part of their country and are proud of it.
Yes, some people misunderstand it and choose to see it as fairytale nonsense and I suppose I am aiming that at some idealistic American's but that is just not what it's about at all.
Personally I think a lot of the misconceptions started with placing Princess Diana on a crazy pedestal.
Things have changed through the centuries when Kings and Queen's had absolute power but even though we now have a parlimentary system, The Queen still has power when called for and they work together on a regular basis. Charity work remains amoungst their most important duty to the country.
Personally, I would rather live in a nation filled with a proud rich heritage any day of the week.
A proud, rich heritage of oppression and imperialism.
and what americans do that? are you like from a diferent country?
I agree with Jerry.

Me too. Jerry just tells it like it is. People worship a family with no real power that are partially supported financially by all taxpaying British. They are enthralled with fairy tale characters. And I love Great Britain and its people. One of the finest nations on earth, in my opinion. I just don't get the whole royal family obsession. These are not real Kings, Queens, Princes, and Princesses anymore. They are taxpayer-supported figureheads and tabloid fodder.
He went on the Bravo network a while back and basically told them how stupid the "Housewives" shows are and how they aren't real celebrities. I've always loved his sarcastic humor.
JWBLACKPRIDE - I totally agree with you. Even if he feels this way, what was the point of voicing it other than publicity? It doesn't really matter what Americans think. It's England and they have a royal family. PERIOD. And if the media weren't always in famous people's faces and making them news, this would just be a headline somewhere. But I don't see Will and Kate writing their own news articles talking about themselves. IT'S THE MEDIA. But then again, without the media, WHO WOULD JERRY SEINFELD BE?!? If you don't have anything nice to say...
I remember a quote from long ago written by Tocqville on American love for Royal's. "Scratch the surface of an American and you will find the Royal Seal of England therein." R

This American obsession with "The Royals" is idiotic. We fought for independance from these people, got it and have spent the last 234 years fawning over them. Ridiculous!
The average American couldn't care less.
The only Americans 'obsessed' with royal stuff are teen girls and flabby housewives who fantasize about being a princess.
I guess I can understand why the Brits would be interested and excited about the royol wedding. I'm sure it is a big deal over there. What I can't understand is anyone else being the least bit interested. Two people getting married! Woopdee flippin do.
I agree with Jerry, they are no more special than anyone else, but for some reason alot of people think they are.
