Prince Harry Promoted, Now Captain in Brit Army

This weekend, Prince William's best man is the one being toasted.

St. James Palace has announced that Prince Harry, after five years of service in the British army, has been promoted to the rank of captain.

The prince, 26, is in training to be an Apache helicopter pilot, according to BBC News. He began his army stint in 2005, and served in Afghanistan in 2007-'08. His deployment was halted after 10 weeks, due to fears that news leaks could threaten the safety of Harry and fellow soldiers. Prince Charles made a private visit to his son while Harry was on duty in Afghanistan.

Harry, third in line to the throne, was known as Officer Cadet Wales early in his military career. The promotion from lieutenant to captain comes not long after his recent four-day trek to the North Pole.

William and Harry, then 15 and 12, lost their mother, Diana, when she was killed in a Paris car crash in 1997.

The tour of duty in Afghanistan made Harry the first member of the British royal family in 25 years to serve in a war zone, the BBC reports. And he's expressed a desire to return to the front lines, pointing out that the army's investment in him shouldn't become a frivolous waste.

"You become a very expensive asset...The training's very expensive, and they wouldn't have me doing what I'm doing," he said. "I'd just be taking up a spare place for somebody else, if they didn't have me going out on the job."

who is "we all"? Prince Harry looks exactly like Diana's side of the family. You know nothing! Such a general statement about something you do not know. Next, you'll be asking for his birth certificate to prove it, right?

Wonder if Harry got his DNA to be tested to find out who is his father because Harry don't look like Prince Charles at all.

THANK YOU!!! And what idiot mentioned a birth certificate? DNA is the word you're looking for, not birth certificate. They"ll never have him take a dna test because it'll prove he's not a royal.

Most American Apache pilots are only warrent officers. This guy is a captain and still in training. That alone should tell you something about being a royal.

American Army helicopter pilots are indeed Warrant Officers. The Army is the only branch that does that. In the Air Force or Navy, one would be a First Lieutenant or so before beginning training in an advanced aircraft. HRH Prince Harry being a Captain and learning to fly Apaches is not outside the realm of possibility (or even "likelihood").

George, your reply makes you sound like you have the hots for the Prince, you need to get a life, Princess. The post you replied to was stating fact and that American Helo pilots make alot less money and are severly under paid. A WO makes less money than a Capitain, for the same duty.

Harry looks like Diana's brother, his uncle. i dont really favor my parents but i look just like my cousin, enough that people ask if shes my sister. Harry is a fine young man to put his life on the line. God bless him and all the other servicemen and women. Harry was born before the rumored affairs.

Both Harry and William use the last name Wales. Harry is probably now Captain Wales since he was Officer Cadet Wales.

Some of you are so gullible and stupid. James Hewitt, the man some of you claim is Harry's father, has already admitted that he didn't even meet Diana until AFTER Harry was born. This has been verified by one of Diana's personal bodyguards. Grow up.

As for his promotion, 5 years isn't unusual to attain the rank of captain. Besides, all accounts have him working alongside his fellow soldiers without any special treatment. He is a dedicated soldier and deserves this promotion.
