Elizabeth Banks in Talks for 'Hunger Games' Role

The cast of 'The Hunger Games' keeps growing.

The latest addition is Elizabeth Banks, who is in talks to join Lionsgate's adaptation of Suzanne Collins' popular book series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Already cast are Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role of Katniss Everdeen. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will play her love interests, while relative newcomers Amandla Stenberg and Dayo Okeniyi were cast earlier Monday as Rue and Thresh, respectively.

Banks will play Effie Trinket, a pink-haired showbiz type who becomes the handler of Katniss.

The story takes place in the not-too-distant future, when the U.S. has collapsed and has been replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. To keep the subjugated citizens entertained, each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in the brutal Hunger Games, which are broadcast throughout the country, with all citizens required to watch. The first book follows the adventures of two contestants -- Katniss and Peeta -- as they become gladiators in the futuristic reality show.

Gary Ross is directing the movie, which is scheduled for a March 23, 2012, release.

I love these books. They're my favorite & I just don't even know what to say. I'm all for the actors/actresses until we get to Josh Hutcherson & Liam Hemsworth. ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW? They are not right for the role of Gale or Peeta. Ugh. This is so disappointing.

you shouldn't be upset with who they choose. the author actually had a say in the choosing of the actors and actresses, and if the actors you may not like a chosen, then deal with it. its going to be a great movie anyways, and its not like you can change who she picked. i for one am excited to see liam and josh play the roles; it'll give them a new variety, unlike their usual love movies, and perhaps they will surprise you.
