Actress Kate Hudson does not know the sex of her unborn child but she is predicting that it will be a girl based on 'The Pendulum Test.'
Hudson was on ET Online promoting her upcoming movie 'Something Borrowed' when the interviewer asked her if she knew what the sex of her unborn baby with Muse frontman Matt Bellamy was.
The 31-year-old actress said she did not know the sex of the baby but she believed the unborn child was a girl based on the pendulum test.
Hudson went on to explain and demonstrate the pendulum test which she jokingly called 'witchy.' "So here's the pendulum test. You take a piece of your hair, and you take a ring... and you string it through. And then what you do is you hold it over your stomach."
She continued, "And [if it moves in] a circle, it's a girl, and a boy [the pendulum] goes back and forth."
The interviewer noticed that the pendulum was moving in the shape of a circle over Hudson's belly.
The expectant mother was then asked if she had any dreams if the baby was a girl.
Hudson replied, "No dreams. I've had no dreams. With Ryder [Hudson's 7-year-old-son with ex Chris Robinson] it was back and forth."
When asked what would happen if the baby turned out to be a boy, Hudson replied, "to see the look on Ryder's face. I mean, forget it," implying Ryder would be really excited to have a baby brother.

The Pendulum test is an old wives tale but it doesn't surprise me that Kate would fall for that she's a second generation star and those tend to be supersticious from having seen what the industry has done to their parents. for example Nell Newman dabbled in acting as a child but because of her parents long shadow she went to college for human ecology. right by the time she was 10 years old her mother had been nominated for two best actress academy awards winning one and her dad had been nominated for best actor 4 times and best picture. infact Nell was born about 12 1/2 months after her mother won the best actress oscar which was presented to her by none other than John Wayne who would later win best actor for True Grit in 1970 and was a dear friend of theirs until his death from lung and stomach cancer June 11th 1979 just weeks after his 72nd birthday
Old wives tale or not, the pendulem worked in predicting the sexes of my kids. Twins, one girl, one boy. I told the ultrasound tech from 4 months on which was which and was way more accurate then she was.
