Tim Robbins Loses Both Parents in Two-Week Span

Tim Robbins' life has been full of professional highs, but the actor recently suffered a devastating personal loss.

PEOPLE reports that Robbins' parents, Gil and Mary Robbins, both passed away within two weeks of each other in their Esteban Cantu, Mexico home.

The 52-year-old actor's father, Gil Robbins, a member of folk group the Highwaymen, succumbed to prostate cancer on April 5th at age 80 and Mary Robbins, his wife of 59 years, died of a heart arrhythmia on the 17th. She was 78 years old.

In addition to his career as a musician, Gil Robbins acted in a number of films directed by and starring his son, including 'Bob Roberts,' 'Dead Man Walking,' and 'Cradle Will Rock.'

Mary Robbins, a flautist, had earned a Bachelor's degree in holistic nutrition and beaten colon cancer prior to her death.

Tim Robbins described his mother as having, "a calm and cheerful demeanor, a sharp wit, a gentle spirit and a generous and loving heart."

Very sad for him and his family. My favorite film of all time was "Shawshank Redemption"...Tim was fabulous in this.

It would not surprise me if Tim Robbins has made some less than truthful remarks about conservative leaders and conservatives in general.Maybe not..I have not followed his career or his personal life..The Democrat party of the past should not be confused with the present socialists.The party of the past did some good things.

God Bless you loosing one is hard, but two so close. We had a relative like that, I truly think the parter dies of a broken heart. Know they are together and at peace. Hang strong!

His political beliefs have absolutely NOTHING to do with this. For God's Sake the man lost his parents in two weeks. That is heartbreaking. I am a Conservative Republican. I feel for him because he is a HUMAN BEING.

Glen - It is horrible for everyone - including actors. Theirs is just more public domain. I too have lost loved ones a week apart, hell, my entire family in less than 5 years. But...everyone needs to know that people care - even actors. No need to be so bitter. Why slam on someone when good wishes are just as easy.
Tim - please remember that there are people that care about you and take pleasure with the wonderful memories that great parents have left you.

Everyone is sooo sorry on this forum. We all die. That's just the way it is. Everyone is acting like it's so unexpected. It's unexpected when the children go first. But not unexpected when people reach their 70's, 80's 90's or more. No one gets out alive. No one!

My sympathies go out 2 u Tim ... it's the natural order of things, so they say, but losing your parents especially one after the other is just heartbreaking. I wish you and yours peace, know that they loved each other so much, they could not be apart.
