LeAnn Rimes on Her Affair: I Know Why I Did It

It was just over two years ago that LeAnn Rimes was caught cheating on then-husband Dean Sheremet with her 'Northern Lights' co-star Eddie Cibrian. And after weathering the storm that followed, Rimes admits she learned a lot.

"I know I didn't do it the right way," Rimes says in "Backstory: LeAnn Rimes," a new special airing Sunday on the Great American Country channel [via UsMagazine.com.] "I didn't have the tools to know how to do it the right way, how to let go the right way. I'd never been taught that," she confesses.

The 28-year-old continues: "I have the strength [now] but I didn't at the time... So, it got really messy, but I have learned a lot from that. And I'm not glad it happened, but I know why it did."

And though Rimes said she learned from her mistakes, she does think there is a double standard when it comes to men and women cheating. "[Country music] has such a double standard. You know, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash and all these guys. God knows what they did back in the day? And if a woman did it, you never were accepted or forgiven. But if it was a guy, it was just their life... It's quite interesting to have to navigate those waters as a woman in this business."

Cibrian, 37, and Rimes got engaged earlier this year but haven't yet announced a wedding date.

Yeah, that's it....have an affair that breaks up not one but 2 marriages involving innocent childre all because someone is 'supposedly' hot. If that's the case then NO marriage would EVER last. About the gay thing...I highly doubt it.

Once a cheater, always a cheater. I guess she's going to find that out the hard way too. When you have to find the 'love of y our life' by breaking up another family it is doomed from the beginning. But if she's Ok with being the main bread winner and being in denial when she starts hearing the rumors he running around on her...then they will be just fine.
And another thing Leanne- those are not your kids..they have a mother and it's not you.

ALL of us know the difference between right and wrong, there's no excuse...what did it, was lust, maybe her and the other cheater really love each other, because if they don't, they will soon find out that lust has an end.

I'm sorry, but Eddie broke up his own marriage. It didn't matter what LeAnn did, HE's the one who made the decision to cheat on his wife. If it hadn't been LeAnn, it would have been somebody else. But they both should have had the guts and integrity to end things with their respective spouses before they began a relationship with each other. Nobody should stay in a relationship that doesn't work anymore, but that doesn't justify cheating.

Now, I'm happily married, and getting too old for this "scratch an itch" stuff, but it's amazing how many men or women steal some other person's spouse, and then are so amazed when their stolen boyfriend or wife, or whatever, just goes right through them to the next one. When you take advantage of someone's weakness to build up your life, expect that weakness to tear it down. It nearly always happens.. again, and again. No one is so powerfully sexy that you can hold a cheater. They move on..

the right tool would have been the respect for her spouse to let him know she no longer happy and no longer loved him, leave and then file for divorce. she's not the first person to have experienced this. it is and always has been an epidemic in the entertainment world.she says she was never taught. taught what! how to treat another person like you would want to be treated! she cheated on her husband, he cheated on his wife. neither was responsible for the other's marriage break-up. they themselves were responsible for their own break-ups. end of story!

Is there a right way to cheat? LeAnn can't blame her parents on this one. She and Eddie took what they wanted from each other and had disregard for their spouses. You can bet this could be about the money.

LeAnn is a taker from life and she will pay for it eventually. Most of the time when you cheat with another man, he cheats on you. What a way to build a new marriage; on cheating.

LeAnn knows the score. Now eat.
