LeAnn Rimes on Her Affair: I Know Why I Did It

It was just over two years ago that LeAnn Rimes was caught cheating on then-husband Dean Sheremet with her 'Northern Lights' co-star Eddie Cibrian. And after weathering the storm that followed, Rimes admits she learned a lot.

"I know I didn't do it the right way," Rimes says in "Backstory: LeAnn Rimes," a new special airing Sunday on the Great American Country channel [via UsMagazine.com.] "I didn't have the tools to know how to do it the right way, how to let go the right way. I'd never been taught that," she confesses.

The 28-year-old continues: "I have the strength [now] but I didn't at the time... So, it got really messy, but I have learned a lot from that. And I'm not glad it happened, but I know why it did."

And though Rimes said she learned from her mistakes, she does think there is a double standard when it comes to men and women cheating. "[Country music] has such a double standard. You know, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash and all these guys. God knows what they did back in the day? And if a woman did it, you never were accepted or forgiven. But if it was a guy, it was just their life... It's quite interesting to have to navigate those waters as a woman in this business."

Cibrian, 37, and Rimes got engaged earlier this year but haven't yet announced a wedding date.

If its in a person to cheat and be dishonest to their mate theres no way to stop them..Its in some people and it skips over others..A natural born cheater wont be faithful to anyone.They are led by their feelings for their own gratifications and self centered wants..and their faithful mate just falls by the wayside.I thought taking an oath and covenant with GOD was what the vows were all about..Things change..I guess and so have morals.

LeAnn is right. I'm not defending what she did, but Eddie deserves equal amount of blame for the situation. Yet you never hear any media outlets talk about him. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt both cheated on their wives (Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston), but Angelina still gets the blame for the Brad/Jen love triangle. I mean, the same thing has happened with other celeb couples (Jerry Seinfeld and wife, Amy Grant and whatshisface) where they've ended marriages to be with each other. If it's meant to be, we'll find out soon enough!

Leann Rimes is a has been anyway. Who cares who she's sleepin with these days? When was the last time she had a number one hit song? 1990? She wants to know what the right tools for cheating are? They're simple. Once you're married, you're married. No more other people, no more one night stands, no matter how hot the other person is. You're married to your partner until your divorce is finalized. She could figure out how to sue her dad, why couldn't she figure this out?

My ex cheated. The other woman had him fast track our divorce. She got pregnant by "accident" before the divorce was final. Low and behold, two months after our divorce he admitted that he made the biggest mistake of his life with her. I said Oh Well, now go home to your new pregnant wife! He regetted it until the day he died! True story!

LeAnne is lucky Brandi didn't sue the hell out of her for intervening in Brandi's marriage (it's not just the spouse who gets sued). LeAnne seems to be all about LeAnne. Time for LeAnne to do some charitable work to help the world- the next time I will pay attention to some self-centered celebrity like LeAnne will be when they do something to help the world and not when they, midst scandal, help wreck some child's home.

Leanne dosent sound very bright.
Its as if she spent too much time on stage, when she was young.
Her mother forgot to teach her the basics it sounds like.
Getting married young, can be the worst mistake a person can ever do, it can ruin a persons life. Leanne is lucky she was able to afford to get out of it. The last thing she should ever do, was to look at a married man twice. Its not only in bad taste, its selfish.
I hope for the kids sake, they are good parents. Those kids will give them pure he*** over the next several years.
Unless those kids are very mature, they will end up hating Leann for ruining their parents marriage.

Cheating is more about the person who cheats than anyone else. They are the person looking to play the victim roll. Oh, poor me I am unhappy, and it is your fault. Baloney! They are unhappy because they have no respect for anyone, least of all themselves. They are looking for someone else to fill that hole they have in themselves. They will never find the solution outside of themselves, they have to fix what their problems are. But most will never work that hard to fix what is wrong within themselves. They will continue to blame someone else. There is the real truth of the issue.

She was old enough to know that cheating was morally wrong. It went further than that when she was seen in public with the other guy as well. Could it have been that as celebrities, these 2 people were so full of themselves that they didn't bother to think or care about the consequences? Time will tell.
