Melissa Leo was understandably excited when she won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for 'The Fighter' in February. So excited, she said on 'The View', that she forgot the rules of network television and dropped an F-bomb in the middle of her acceptance speech. She was steady, she said, until she was announced as the winner and was alone onstage and had to speak.
"Then I was at sea, and I tried to start and I knew I had no idea," she said. "I couldn't get a thought in my head." It just slipped out, she said -- not something she meant to do. She noted she has worked in network television and knows you can't use profanity. "I know those rules," she said. "On purpose, never."

What about the children that had to listen to that language?

lame excuse. she knew she would win. she won on all the other 20 award shows.
Totally tasteless and vulgar!! What you say in the privacy of your own home is your business, but when you say something like that in public, it really reduces peoples' opinion of you. She will be remembered for her vulgarity now instead of her acting, and that's a shame.

It is obvious, she throws that WORD around a lot. BUT this generation of women do so many distasteful stuff that maybe a wrap around their head is justified. Anything that bleeds for 7 days and does not die....now how can you trust that?
Helena deserved that Oscar anyway. She wouldn't have dropped that F-Bomb and her performance was just better.

AGREED!!
I agree. Melissa Leo put out advertising for herself to push to win the Oscar. She did not deserve the win just for that alone.
Helena Bonham Carter was superior to Leo in the catagory and definitely should have won and so should have Geoffrey Rush for his character.
Leo is a foul mouth who fit the part she played in The Fighter but not the award!!!
Phony actress. I also believe that Helena should have won.
getting a superfluous statue wasn't enough to garner her the acclaim that using foul language did. remember the laughter when she uttered the four-letter word?
she's now a member of society's elite and will probably be the most sought-after actress because of what she's trying to explain as a mistake.
no wonder no one ever married this pig.

People make fun of me because I don't swear at all...never (however, people still seem to realize when I am angry, strange, huh?).
So, here's a tip from me: if you never use vulgar language, you will never "slip."

Many studies have shown that cursing can lessen pain, relieve stress and make you feel better. Seriously. Google it. :)
I don't believe for a minute that it was an "accident". I believe she did it to get a stir with some applauds. Both worked. Do I like her acting yes,but do I believe it just "slipped out" no. It just seemed faked.

I never use that word so it wouldn't "slip" out. This woman uses this word on a regular basis; tasteless...enough said.

They're not so innocent anymore. I'm sure their precious little ears have heard worse, and sure they've said worse, too.

You have to be a mental midget to let the F bomb "slip" in front of an audience of millions. If anything, a thinking adult would be acutely aware of each word, phrase and sentence she uttered and how it would be taken by the audience. Maybe she really is stupid. You never know.
