Elton John Confirms That Lady Gaga Is His Son's Godmother

After much speculation, Elton John and his partner David Furnish have confirmed to Barbra Walters, in an interview airing tonight on '20/20,' that Lady Gaga is the godmother of their four-month-old son, Zachary.

"Yes, yes she is," John said when asked if Gaga was one of Zachary's godparents. "When you get to the real person under there, there's a real simple person under there who loves her parents."

Furnish told Walters, according to MTV, "Zachary's going to inherit an incredible musical legacy from his father one day, and she will be a good person to guide him through the ins and outs of the music business, 'cause she sure knows everything about the business now."

The confirmation comes after months of speculation by the media. MTV UK reports that Furnish was reluctant to confirm that Gaga was the godmother, but told reporters in February, "We haven't publicly confirmed that yet but your sources are very good! I prefer not to comment on it because we are going to make a statement about godparents later on."

For his part, John has been joking about the rumors for some time. During his hosting stint on 'Saturday Night Live' on April 2, he joked, "For those of you concerned that we are unusual parents, do not worry. It's not like we are the only two people involved in the child's life. His godmother is Lady Gaga. That's true, that's not a joke ... which is ironic because I've always said that Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids. And Gaga loves Mars. She says Mars has good schools and great discos."

I personally am for Gay Marriage/having kids and all that stuff but after hearing this it's easier for me to see how some could be against it. lol

I agree, this just seems a bit flaky, Gaga has only been around for a short time, Elton John certainly should have some people he has known for longer or something...just seems odd.

I am against gay people adopting children. All they are thinking about is them selves and not how this child will feel about it later in life. The child has no say in this and it might ruin his or hers life. I believe being gay is a choice and not normal. My right as a citzen. disgusting and unacceptable.

So this baby was baptized into some sort of Christian faith? Isn't that the point of a Godparent? I somehow can't imaging Lady Gaga next to a baptismal font using her finger to make the sign of the cross on the baby's head.

Really I have no problem with these two men wanting special people to help in the raising and influence of their baby- but, to call her a Godmother- I just find it hard to believe since no religious affiliation was mentioned. Clearly, they really don't know the meaning of "Godparents."

Regargless of the gay thing which I really don't have a problem with; what the hell is that OLD man doing having a baby now? He is way too old (I haven't a clue how old his partner is) to be starting to raise a baby at his age. It's a shame that he will never live long enough to see the child grow up to say nothing of never knowing grandkids and the joy of them. If he was going to do this, he needed to do it about 40 years ago. I get so pissed at all these old men who just think they are so special just because they can father a kid. It takes a LOT more than that. Being around would help.

maybe his partner is younger and wants a baby (forty something).so im guessing he might be able to be there for the son. and i didnt know elton was sick, people do live past 80 all the time.
