James Franco is a busy, busy guy: acting, writing, filmmaking, going to school-he's even teaching a course about himself at a college in Los Angeles! And though he's currently pursuing a PhD in English from Yale, Franco is also enrolling in a second doctorate program. That's right. In addition to all of his pursuits, the '127 Hours' actor is pursuing a second PhD at the University of Houston.
"James Franco was scheduled to enter the PhD program in Literature and Creative Writing in Fall 2011, but he requested a deferral for an additional year, which the faculty granted, so he is now scheduled to begin doctoral work here in fall 2012," a spokesperson for the school told UsMagazine.com.
Franco got his undergraduate degree from UCLA in 2008. Two years later, he got a MFA degree in writing from Columbia. He's also taken filmmaking courses at NYU.

Pot head, good actor and brains?? Now I really am impressed.

No wonder the guy didn't fit as an Oscar host! He's too cerebral for that fluff.

I knew there was something special about this guy. He's not only a handsome guy, he seems to be smart, too.

Some people are just plain God's Given Gift, he is one of them, gorgeous, handsome and very very smart.

He's setting a great example for his young fans. He loves education and uses his creativity and brains instead of just relying on his good looks and money. Yes, he's smart but he's also got a love of learning and creating instead of being lazy. He could easily just party, work out, sleep around, and spend his money, but he wants to live life to the fullest.

Anyone who has been in graduate school knows how hard and time consuming it is. I hate to say it but these schools are probably just giving him a degree because he is a celebrity and it will draw in more real students who will pay money or bring in money through research...

Pursuing a PhD is not the same as having a PhD, especially from Yale. Check your facts before you write your headlines!

James Franco is quite the Renaissance man. I admire anyone who wants to be educated, and he has multiple interests. He's not just a one trick pony. Some Americans make fun of educated people, since ignorance is a virtue here and intelligence is mistrusted.

Isn't this the guy that played a "pot head" brilliantly in a movie with Seth Grogan? Pot head, good actor and brains?? Now I really am impressed.
