Katie Couric Announces Departure from 'CBS Evening News'
Katie Couric is signing off for good from her position at 'CBS Evening News.'
While there have been rumors for weeks regarding a potential career change for Couric, it was only today that the anchor confirmed the news to
PEOPLE.
"I have decided to step down from the 'CBS Evening News,'" Couric announced. "I'm really proud of the talented team on the 'CBS Evening News' and the award-winning work we've been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I've done for '60 Minutes' and 'CBS Sunday Morning.' In making the decision to move on, I know the 'Evening News' will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future."
The 54-year-old reporter, who joined CBS in 2006, says of her next move, "I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling... I have a lot of areas of interest and I want to be able to fulfill all of that."
Couric isn't going to end her run at CBS on a low note, however. The host, who covered the Egyptian Revolution from Cairo earlier this year, will interview Rep. Gabrielle Gifford's husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, in addition to providing coverage of the royal wedding for CBS, before she departs.
Rounding out her already impressive resume, the mother of two released 'The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons From Extraordinary Lives,' a book of essays, in April. Avid philanthropist Couric is donating all proceeds from the book to
Scholarship America, a charity that helps students earn college degrees.

Please tell me Victoria Beckham will pull in her insecurity/ need to upstage and be the centre of attention out of respect for the day and the bride or even her husband's friendship with William. If thier soon to be born daughter doesn't grow up with some sort of eating disorder or body dysmorphic (self hating) disorder and or addictions I'll be shocked (and relieved).

Right after they said "Get out"!
She has a weird/creepy doll face. It freaks me out.

Katie's only 54? She looks much older. Anyway, don't let the cameras hit you on the butt on your way out.

This is no surprise. I am surprised though that she lasted as long as she did on the Nightly News. I liked Katie when she was on the Today Show and felt the move to news anchor was a mistake. It was. She lacks the perseverance needed as a solo news anchor. It is a shame too that she never got out of the cellar in ratings. I think a talk show on her own is also a mistake. She is a good ensemble person, not solo.

Katie Couric is just as annoying as Oprah and they all make too much money. Adios

I think she was great; smart, and tasteful. It's easy to accidentally insult people or lose objectivity when you are on the news every night, and she was consistently spot-on!

God, she's only 54. She has more money than God. It would be nice if she spends a few years helping others. How much money do these people need??
