Star Magazine Apologizes to Katie Holmes for Drug Use Allegations

After Star Magazine published a January cover story with the headline, "Katie Drug Shocker!", Katie Holmes was less than pleased -- the actress filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against the tabloid.

But now the mag is coming back, tail between its legs, with a published apology to Holmes along with a promised charitable donation on the actress' behalf.

The cover that spawned the wrath of Holmes showed the stunner looking less than herself in a messy up-do with smudged eye makeup. The apology is running in the latest issue of Star mag and along with the cover headline, "Star Apologizes to Katie Holmes."

The apology reads, "Star did not intend to suggest that Ms. Holmes was a drug addict or was undergoing treatment for a drug addiction. Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any misperception."

Misperception is quite an understatement for the story, which ran under the header, "Addiction Nightmare." But Holmes' rep told TMZ that with the apology and "substantial" charitable donation, the lawsuit has been settled.

"I'm pleased that this lawsuit could be resolved amicably and accept American Media's apology," Holmes said in her own statement released today.

I have no idea how the Enquirer or Star get away with half of the crap they print. I guess some stars just let it go as the crap it is, or some fight it. Oddly enough, sometimes they do get a real scoop first.

i would so need drugs if i were wed to tom cruise...i back down they may be scripts but its unfair to judge by appearances altho suri is winning w her lil self vs her parents...so what happened to another child no sds around?

It was perfectly stated on the front cover EXACTLY what they wanted their loser readers to think. The "apology" was a joke. So are the people who read this crap.

you been so excited about someone you couldn't contain yourself?
He just did it on Oprah! And the audiance is alway UP UP when he is there. And everyone made that appearance what it was...HAPPY CRAZY FUN! He apologized for his arrogance on the Today show. Leave them alone! They are one of Hollywoods darling couples!
