Rachel Maddow: Gay People Have a Responsibility to Come Out

Rachel Maddow was quoted in an interview saying that gay people have a responsibility to come out.
Political reporter Maddow, who is openly gay, was being interviewed by
The Guardian when she was asked if she felt any frustration towards an equally well-known news presenter who is widely assumed to be gay but has never come out?
Maddow carefully words her response, "I'm sure other people in the business have considered reasons why they're doing what they're doing, but I do think that if you're gay you have a responsibility to come out."
RadarOnline.com is reporting that it was immediately speculated that Maddow was referring to CNN anchor
Anderson Cooper.
However, 38-year-old Maddow took to her
blog to say that it was not Cooper she was referring to.
Maddow writes, "I wasn't asked about Anderson Cooper, I didn't say anything about him, he literally was never discussed during the interview at all -- even implicitly. I don't tend to be shy when I criticize -- you wouldn't have to read between the lines if that's what I was trying to do."
She continues, "I did not in my interview with The Guardian say anything about or to Mr. Cooper, nor would I. Although criticism of Mr. Cooper was intimated by The Guardian and picked up everywhere -- I did not make that criticism in the interview, nor did I imply it, nor is it what I believe."
Maddow also wrote about her long held beliefs of people coming out and concludes by saying, "I also believe that coming out makes for a happier life, but that's not a matter of ethics, that's just corny advice."
Maddow is in a long term relationship with her partner, artist Susan Mikula.

I didn't realize people were obligated to let everyone know what is their own personal business! Sure, many gay people do share that fact but you have the right to privacy and to choose to whom you tell things and what you will or will not tell them.

I agree. Besides, look what happened to Thomas Roberts when he announced he was gay. He disappeared from CNN almost instantly. He went from being on all the time to not being on at all.
Rachel Maddow is sickening. They need to flush her down the toilet like they did Keith Olberman, another loser. It's nice to know Obama has all the gays, minorities, and welfare recipients on his watch. Speaks well for the country now, doesn't it?

they could do a story on cheese and crackers, and people would find a way to bring politics in on it,makes me wanna puke.
Why would you want to flush such a talent down the toilet. Go watch FOX and leave us sain people alone. Flush your prejudices down the toilet.

What is wrong with you?
Having hateful biggots spew vitriolic garbage about one's fellow human beings & countrymen is SO much more worthy of Civic Pride!!! Get a Life!
Who is she to dictate what others (ie; Anderson Cooper) should or should not do? What a repulsive woman. I don't understand how her show is even still on. I didn't think she had any ratings.

the only responsibility gay people have is to go back to the closet where they belong. They are a scourge on society and should be treated as such

There is nothing "gay" about their life style...they have a very high rate of suicide...call them what they are, queers!!
Yes, Jim,by all means, let's call them what they are: Your friends, neighbors, politicians, mechanics, chefs, pro athletes, grocers, celebrities, armed forces, lawyers, doctors, musicians, veterinarians, bankers, truckers, car salesmen(and women), delivery staff, ice cream scoopers, fast food workers, carpet cleaners...this list goes on and on. You might be very surprised to learn the people you interact with on a daily basis are gay/lesbian and you never knew. Perhaps you need to recite the Serenity Prayer and get some counseling for your fear. Homosexuality doesn't rub off and isn't contagious. I find it laughable that people harbor such resentment over it.
I agree ! go back in the closet ! Our young generation is growing up thinking that being gay is OK, and we all know thru medical research it is a learned trait. READ THE BIBLE
What is wrong with you?
I've read the Bible, Stan, and I don't recall it teaching hate. Perhaps you should take another look.
I'd also re-review those medical journals you speak of. I think you missed something there, too.
Ewww! I bet you're one of those ugly guys that thinks every gay man wants them!

LOVE how all the bigots and bible thumpers "click" on all the GAY stories! Gay, bi curious YOU ALL ARE! Joseph, Stan and Jim, stop peeking at me from underneath the stall, not polite!
I disagree with this person as I have always felt in life"it is their story to tell".It is wrong to make a person "tell their story" unless they choose to do so.!It really is not our business to tell people what to do with their life.!!!

Rachel Maddow has a responsibility to mind her own business but she doesn't do that. She seems to think it's her responsiblity to tell everyone what they should be doing all the time and annoy most of the population while doing so.

The world could care less about you being queer.
