Morrissey has blasted the Royal family as "benefit scroungers" and, rather unsurprisingly, has declared that he won't be watching the upcoming royal wedding. As the UK -- or some parts of it, at least -- prepares to revel in the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday, April 29, Morrissey was predictably less than enthused about the event.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4 (via BBC News), the former Smiths frontman talked about his nickname for Middleton -- "Kate Muddleton" -- and took time to lament the British monarchy.
"Why would I watch the wedding?" he said. "I couldn't take any of that seriously. I don't think the so-called Royal family speak for England now, and I don't think England needs them."

Yes. Best when the world looks at England they see washed-up, name-calling pop stars and not historic, world-changing, royal families.

Morrissey is an amazing artist, and yes he is right. They are useless and the media needs to stop shoving this wedding down our throats.

Geez what a loser. Who cares what this has been thinks anyway.

The royal family should be jailed for welfare fraud. There are millions of poor children in Britain who barely have enough food to eat, but the decrepit queen and her welfare babies are living high on the hog. Disgusting.

Not to mention Thatcher going on her ego trip and crushing the coal industry and 100,000's of jobs. Kate should be able to tell us about this, the story goes she's from a miners family.

Morrisey is just a miserable has been, not many would turn out to see or hear him, miserable old git!

Without the Royal Family, what is there to lure people to England? The weather is lousy, the food is worse. The tourism business would suffer immensely. If you don't believe that, you're naive. I would love to know what the take has been for the past week, in London. I would bet it far more than covered the cost of the wedding. It's just business.
Face it. England NEEDS the royal family. Besides, they have no Constitutional authority, so why worry about them? They are, afterall, like Mickey Mouse. Disney World without Mickey would be diminished. England without the Royals would be diminished.

Really? I didn't meet the royal family when I was there, but I enjoyed the history, Trafalgar Square, a Thames River cruise, riding a real double decker, touring Buckingham, seeing Big Ben, taking a ride on the Eye, crossing the Tower Bridge, taking in a stage production, checking out the Museum of London and feasting upon delicious fish and chips along with a REAL pub beer (okay, beers).
What the world does not need and England does not need is a daft wanker as yourself saying what you have about the Royals. It is just your opinion and it really does not matter at all!

Actually Morrissey it`s Great Britian...not England...seems like you should know that you miserable old coot.

Biscotti,
You missed the point. You visited Buckingham Palace, the Tower Bridge, Big Ben, the Museum of London, ALL OF WHICH are directly related to the MONARCHY. You talked about the history, which is dominated by the MONARCHY. Of course it is now a Constitutional Monarchy, but the pomp and pageantry sell, don't they?

I don't disagree that it sells. But you can enjoy the history without their current existence. The monuments and attractions in Washington are related to the presidency, but I could still enjoy them if he no longer lived there.
Or...the Roman empire has fallen, but seeing the Colliseum was still pretty amazing. :)
Who is this loser?

Posting without reading the article again, I see. Always a pleasure, Bonbon.
The man's an idiot, as usual. It's him that's not needed. By the way, The Smiths were great in spite of Morissey, not because of him. God save the Queen.

The only thing England doesn't need is Morrissey and has beens like him. The RoyalFamily is Britain. Actually, I'd rather have the Queen in charge of the U.S. than this clown we call a president.
