After their historic wedding inside Westminster Abbey Friday morning, the newly named Duke and Duchess of Cambridge fulfilled royal obligations (photos, kisses, waving). Then, they had a party to attend!
Now, details are emerging from the festivities about the music, menu and other special touches.
About 300 of the couple's family and friends were invited to the evening reception that was hosted by Prince Charles inside Buckingham Palace, according to Us. And with her groom in a dapper tux, newlywed Kate Middleton changed from her lacy wedding dress and veil into another Sarah Burton gown and sweater.
Prince Harry's remarks were a highlight during the black-tie affair; Prince William's brother reportedly delivered a tasteful tribute to the new couple, free of embarrassing wisecracks -- and made mention of their late mother, Princess Diana, who died when the groom was 15. An insider reports that Harry told guests how much of Diana he sees in his older brother. The bride was said to be moved to tears.
For William and Kate's first dance, they were serenaded with a cover of Sir Elton John's 'Your Song,' performed by rising British pop singer Ellie Goulding.
Goulding, 24, was the only artist invited to perform live at the wedding reception -- the couple are reportedly big fans of her 2010 album, 'Lights.' She followed up 'Your Song' with her own single, 'Starry Eyed.' Check out Goulding's sound in the clips below (and tune in to see her as the musical guest when Tina Fey hosts the next 'Saturday Night Live').
What did chefs feed the dazzling crowd? Crab, beef, chocolate pudding, and ice cream were on the menu. And as a souvenir, each guest went home when the party ended at 2 a.m. with a pair of cupcakes, boxed up with the couple's official engagement photo. The late-night treats were custom-packaged by Cake Kit Company, a provider of wedding favors owned by Kate Middleton's brother, James.
As a finale, fireworks began while carriages drove guests off the palace grounds.
Actually, they don't elect the prime minister. They elect members of parliament. The party with the most members after the election picks the prime minister. Usually whoever is in charge of the party at the time. That's why a lot of people hated Gordon Brown. He just got to be prime minister when Tony Blair stepped down because the mps picked him. And I'm pretty sure elections happen whenever the PM decides to dissolve parliament, not every 5 years.
Actually, the monarch in England has no political power and is a figurehead. The conservatives in this country want to cut out school lunches for kids, so maybe they would support a monarchy...
This was a story about Harry talking about his Mom during his toast. I think it was a wonderful tribute to Diana that her son spoke of her and how she is missed! I hope Camillia had the decency to leave the room while the boys remembered their beautiful, wonderful mother!
Just to let you know, the reason why we have a president and first lady is because, the english settlers came or shall I say conquerd America to get away from the British government. Theay tax their people so much that theay where not able to feed their familys, amongs others things. I'm no history expert but that much I do know.
You obviously are not very smart about how either government works and the history of WHY the US government operates the way it does today.....with elections! American pride!!! ALL Americans should have it and remember absolutely NO country is perfect and never will be.
Actually, they do have an election...for Prime Minister. The royal family has no real power only influence. They are more of a burden on tax payers rather than help the UK's economy.
...and they seem to be doing fine after all theses years...I suppose maybe generation after generation you can finally get it right .They surely ,by now,... know how to run a country right...can you imagine the bushes after bushes...or nixons.....thank you our forefathers.......
You could see the influence of Philip Treacy in so many of those hats. Not sure why so many Brits think they are so wonderful. Most were gawd-awful, especially the two daughters of Fergie and Andrew. Was it revenge for their mother having not been invited? Most of those conservative British types have zero fashion sense anyway. Even Madonna sunk to new fashion lows once she moved there. Must be something in the water.
You know, I think that those hats WERE in defiance of their mother not being "allowed" to attend. That was unfair - she is still Princes William and Harry's aunt. I mean, Camilla was allowed to be there, the home wrecker...
I guess it is not exactly politically correct or pseudo-intellectual, but I LOVED every minute of the royal wedding. The pageantry, the spectacle, the beautiful colors, even the crazy hats were so entertaining. It was also a pleasure to see that everyone planned so well and worked so hard and well to make the day perfect in every detail. Most of all, I loved seeing the happy couple and wish them all happiness.

@Sarah: You do know that they are figureheads, and that the real ruler, their prime minister is an elected official, right?
Are you uneducated? They have elections every 5 years for Prime Minister, in American lanuage,President.

If our elected leaders keep ignoring the law and constitution, we will have a defacto monarchy anyway

What a lot of stunningly hideous hats. The bride was gorgeous, the guests were atrocious.
