Cher Admires Son Chaz Bono's Courage for Sharing His Personal Journey

It looks like Cher has finally accepted her son Chaz Bono's gender change.

PEOPLE is reporting that Cher held a private screening of the documentary 'Becoming Chaz' at her Malibu home over the weekend.

In the documentary, Chaz's story about his transformation from a woman to a man is told and it is scheduled to premier on Oprah's OWN Network next week.

A friend of Cher is quoted saying, "Cher and 10 of her and Chaz's friends stood up and cheered when it was over,"

The friend also quotes Cher, who told her during the screening, "I admire my son Chaz's courage for sharing his personal journey. Most important to me is that he is very happy. That's what I care about the most. He has my love and support."

Bono was born Chastity Bono to the famed singing duo of Sonny and Cher.

Bono started a female-to-male gender-reassignment surgery in 2009 and legally became a man after a Santa Monica judge granted Bono's request to change his name from Chastity to Chaz and to switch his gender identification to male in 2010.

Cher has had some trouble accepting Chaz's gender change to a man and openly talked the issues she was having in an interview with Vanity Fair last year. "If I woke up tomorrow in a guy's body, I would just kick and scream and cry and f****ing rob a bank, because I cannot see myself as anything but who I am -- a girl. I would not take it as well as Chaz has. I couldn't imagine it," she says.

Cher even mixes up his gender in casual conversations. "Well, she's a very smart girl -- boy! This is where I get into trouble. My pronouns are f***ed. I still don't remember to call her 'him,'" she admitted.

Bono, 42, has been in a long-term relationship with girlfriend Jennifer Elia.

I figured it out. CYBERGENTIALS. They took Cher's of, froze it, and re-attatched it to Chaz. Mystery solved. Chaz has one. OK. Chaz is a male version of an "IT".

Her son? From what I remember she had one child a daughter, and what courage? For living? God give us a break, if you want to report on courage there are thousands of young men and women in the Middle East living courageous lives every day, no one gives a damn about some spoiled rich kid that doesn't know what she is !

I don't care if you take medication or even go to extreme surgery methods to change your gender; Chastity, you are a woman and will forever be a woman. Same goes for every person trying to play God with their gender. You are what you were created to be. Learn to love and accept yourself.

Out of 3 children I have a gay son. It didnt matter, doesnt matter, I knew before he told me but i loved him the same always.
As a mother you love your children always, cute, homely, gangly, gay, straight. If one of my children was downright miserable to the point of needing a life changing event...this would be alright too. Quality and the joy of life is what is important, not what others think or want!!. Having said all this it is obvious for health reasons that Chaz is morbidly obese and this has no bias on gender. To save his life he must loose weight in order to enjoy his new found happiness.
