Hat Trick: How Fergie Got Last Laugh at Wedding

Even though The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, was not invited to attend the Royal Wedding on Friday, she had the last laugh when her bold daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie turned up in those ridiculous and show-stopping hats.

"I'm sure Sarah helped pick out those hats," a close friend of Fergie's tells me. "The one thing Sarah hates more than anything is being ignored and this was her way of saying f-you to the family who would rather pretend she doesn't exist."

Beatrice's intricate bow-like hat raised eyebrows from the second she stepped out of her car at Westminster Abby, while her younger sister's royal blue fashion statement included purple flowers and large white feathers.

Reviews were pretty consistently bad for the hats. The Daily Mail called their fascinators "ludicrous" and "flops" and Tori Spelling told E! that "they looked a little crazytown."

There's even a blog for goofing on B's hat, aptly named Princess Beatrice and Her Hat.

"There is a lot of competition within the family to out-dress each other," my insider tells me. "And nothing draws more attention to you than an elaborate hat. I guarantee you that a lot of time, thought and money went into selecting these works of art. Nothing happens by chance in that family!"

That DRUNK shouldn't have been invited to such a nice wedding. She tried to sell access to the Royal family! All she had to do was let the highest bidder who wanted to make a violent statement and innocent people could be hurt. Her daughters weren't the only ones with stupid arse hats. I would hate to be sitting behind one of these selfish women at a weddding, especially as I am short.

What Heather said. People forgot that the former Dutches of York was trying to sell people access to her ex-husband.

As far as her daughters are concerned, I didn't think Beatrice looked terrible at all, quite the opposite. Yes the hat is questionable, but the rest of her outfit was quite beautiful and I loved her smokey eyes. Eugenie's hat was cute, but her dress was ill-fitted. Women wearing outlandish hats is part of British tradition at morning weddings.

Heather, if Camillia could be there, I would think it would be fine to have poor old Fergie there! It seems to me that she wouldn't have to sell access to anyone had this horrid family given her a suitable divorce settlement. She got surprisingly little! She is the mother of the queens two granddaughters and should have been included. Oh and Beatrice is a horrible dog! She has the royal families UGLY mouth!

Face it, these girls have a status greater than any English film star. Designers would kill to have their fashions worn by these types, especially at an event with so much media involved. And it's not like they couldn't afford it if they weren't given the clothing or at least a substantial discount. Why then would these two show up at a Royal Wedding in such Halloween worthy get-ups if there wasn't an ulterior motive?

Fact is the hats were ugly and good for Sarah if she did get the last laugh. She is the mother of the 4 and 5th in line for the thrown of England and although she has used bad judgment, everyone deserves forgiveness.

Whether or not she (Sarah) got the last laugh really doesn't matter. She should have been invited as well, irregardless of the fact of what she tried to do. Let's not forget that the UGLY Camilla was there along with her UNGLY husband Prince Charles, and they openly had an ongoing affair right in front of Princess Diana! They literally threw it in her face, basically the whole time she was married to that talentless borish bastard! If anyone should not have been there, it should have been Camilla. Because of their actions, Princess Di is no longer here and didn't have the opportunity to attend her son's wedding.

These young women are at the age where I am sure THEY choose what they wear. I seriously doubt their mother had much,if any say in the final decision. Young people do things to garner attention...good or bad....besides in the grand scheme of things, their hats weren't much worse than others worn to the wedding...OR those placed and tacked to the literal SIDE of the head on many women there. I guess that's how they do it in England. It's ok. They are cool people.

Will Sarah be invited to her own daughters' weddings?

At her own daughters' weddings, she will be the mother of the bride. In THIS case, she is the ex-wife of the groom's uncle, and the mother of the groom's ADULT daughters. There is no reason she should have been invited to the wedding. Her daughters are adults and received their own invitations; it would have been different if one of them was 5 years old and a bridesmaid. Substitute your own family members' names into my second sentence and be honest: would you invite your Uncle John's ex-wife Mary? Especially if you aren't close to her? Keep in mind that there could have been additional awkwardness if her ex-husband brought a date to the wedding....

Well said Pat! When my nieces got married, they invited my brother (their Uncle) and their cousin (his daughter), but not his ex-wife/her Mom.

And saying she should have been invited because Camilla was - that's just stupid. Regardless of the past, Camilla is their father's wife.
