Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Reveal Newborn Twins' Names

Ever since
Mariah Carey and
Nick Cannon's twins -- a boy and a girl -- were
born, the singer has been teasing fans, urging them to guess the names of her newborns. But it seems like Mariah's game was a little less than fair.
The couple finally revealed their babies' names on Carey's
blog (via
Us Magazine). Their baby girl is named Monroe Cannon after Marilyn Monroe -- Carey's icon of inspiration.
Monroe's brother will go by Moroccan Scott Cannon. The top floor of Carey's New York City apartment is called the 'Moroccan Room' due to it's North African aesthetic. The luxurious space is also where Cannon proposed to Carey in 2008. Cannon's son also shares the same middle name, Scott, as his actor dad.
But we shouldn't be shocked by the pair's unconventional naming choices -- their road to marriage was also seemingly off-the-cuff. The pair, who met after Cannon appeared in one of the songstress' music videos, married in April 2008 after a brief two-month courtship. And similarly unexpected, they tied the knot in an intimate, low-key ceremony -- quite the contrast from Carey's 1993 over the top wedding to music executive, Tommy Mottola.
But this odd couple, Carey is 12 years Nick's senior, seems to have a rare industry staying power. And from
painted pregnant bellies to Twitter
guessing games, this couple proves that all it takes to make it work in Tinseltown is a bit of light-hearted fun.
Congratulations to Carey, Cannon and their one-off brood -- Moroccan and Monroe.

Monroe isn't such a bad name. I kind of like it, actually. Although it may have some... meanings behind it that not many people want for their baby girl. But Moroccan is just awful.

The names are awful. Those poor kids!!!!!!!! Why don't they just tattoo Beat up Now on their foreheads!

they should have named the boy after Nick and since Mariah is a big fan of marilyn Monroe they should have named the girl Marilyn that sounds better than Monroe but the names they chose are very unique. congrats Nick and Mariah i wish you the best! =)

Did Mimi name those poor babies or did Mariah? I think it best if she waits until the babies are born and she regains some brain cells before attaching such horrid names on innocent babies. WHAT DID THEY EVER DO TO HER?!

why can't people just give their kids regular names. i'm so sick of amoreishas and shorondas and martellicias. man......

What were they thinking???????????

I PERSONALLY HATE THE NAMES.. POOR KIDS, YOU KNOW THE SCHOOL KIDS WILL HAVE A FIELD DAY. MONROE COULD BE A BOY NAME.. LETS FACE IT, IT IS JUST BAD TASTE... BET THE BABIES WILL BE ADORABLE EVEN IF THEY HAVE CRUMMY NAMES.. I PRAY SHE CHANGES HER MIND.

Hmmm, I think she should have split the name Marilyn Monroe = Marilyn for her daughter and Monroe for her son. That would've been much better!

So very happy for you both. I love the names and what the names mean to you both(love is in the name). Congratulations!!

No one will ever take these children seriosly--their peers will make jokes of them and the parents. Why did you do this, Mariah and Nick? Your parents gave you sensible and strong names.I think you will live to regret it. Anyhow, God bless your little Angels--I am anxious to see their pictures.Nick and Mariah, continue to be good to each other and give these children a good home and family life. I believe you will!!!

You're already deciding that no none will take these kids seriously?!?! are you serious?
As if the names aren't bad enough, the author actually has the audacity to say they have "staying power"? Are you freaking serious? They've been together like 3 years. And now that they have kids, they'll likely be together less than 3 more. If that's what counts as "staying power" these days, I'm happy to stay single.

How about you all STFU. Stop being so judgemental. These children are going to have fantastic lives with nothing but the best regardless of their names. Just get over it, many of you are just jealous that you werent born with Mariah's talent, or that your children will NEVER have what hers will. These are still innocent child so leave them out of it.

Congratulations to both of them! They seem very happy and I personally like the names. I don't like Monroe for a girl but to each his/her own. I love Moroccan! My children have "exotic" names as do I. I believe in giving a child a name that will have shape their personality and set them up to be individuals, not something pleasing to the rest of the world.

I guess Mike and Micki were taking.

Why do black people name their children such awful and ridiculous names? Don't they get it that these babies will grow up one day and have to live with horrible names...the Monroe name is ok but the little boy! Puleazeeeeee!

Its not just "black people" who give their kids weird names sometimes, take for instance the Zappas, the Beckhams, etc all of whom are white! So lets stop putting a racial spin on the names OK! I pray God will give them the strength to endure the ignorance projected their way, God bless them with beautiful healthy children and a long marriage.
What does race have to do with names? These are their children & as parents we came name our children whatever we want no matter what color. There is only one race, the human race & G-d made us all. I am white but I have a biracial grandson & we do not look at color. G-d never meant for us to distinguish between colors. When I see someone I don't see black or white, I see a creation of G-d! Couples of all races name their children names that you might not approve of but after all it is none of your business.
