Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Reveal Newborn Twins' Names

Ever since Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's twins -- a boy and a girl -- were born, the singer has been teasing fans, urging them to guess the names of her newborns. But it seems like Mariah's game was a little less than fair.

The couple finally revealed their babies' names on Carey's blog (via Us Magazine). Their baby girl is named Monroe Cannon after Marilyn Monroe -- Carey's icon of inspiration.

Monroe's brother will go by Moroccan Scott Cannon. The top floor of Carey's New York City apartment is called the 'Moroccan Room' due to it's North African aesthetic. The luxurious space is also where Cannon proposed to Carey in 2008. Cannon's son also shares the same middle name, Scott, as his actor dad.

But we shouldn't be shocked by the pair's unconventional naming choices -- their road to marriage was also seemingly off-the-cuff. The pair, who met after Cannon appeared in one of the songstress' music videos, married in April 2008 after a brief two-month courtship. And similarly unexpected, they tied the knot in an intimate, low-key ceremony -- quite the contrast from Carey's 1993 over the top wedding to music executive, Tommy Mottola.

But this odd couple, Carey is 12 years Nick's senior, seems to have a rare industry staying power. And from painted pregnant bellies to Twitter guessing games, this couple proves that all it takes to make it work in Tinseltown is a bit of light-hearted fun.

Congratulations to Carey, Cannon and their one-off brood -- Moroccan and Monroe.

Why does it matter to you what african americans name their kids.we live in a muticultural society with people fom varied backgrounds.every body can't be bill or jane. A typical african name is a name you can't pronounce or spell. That is our heritage, so if people of african americans decent choose to be creative with name selection for their kids, more power to them.At least their have a choice, our ancestors weren't give a choice when slave master changed our names.know history, and mind your business.

The girls names is't that bad. The boy..well, that poor thing better be thankful that his parents are rich because he'd be a laughing stock if he was in the real world. Hopefully he'll go by Scott.

I always have to laugh when I read the names celebrities choose for their children. I think a lot of them treat their kids like pets. Play with them when they feel like it but let someone else do the hard work and clean up the mess. Now they're naming them like pets. What kind of a person names a child after room decor?

Don't I feel old-fashioned and out of the loop. I named my twins John & Samantha. They're teens now and so far have not been teased about their names but you never know what can happen. Using Mariah's ideas I should have called my son Canterbury Cathedral (for where I was proposed to) and my daughter No One (for my icon). All joking aside, I wish all the best for the babies and their parents.

please do not be so foolish to believe that ALL black people name their children what some may deem awful names. people of all ethnicities have a minority within their group that get a little creative with naming their children. bluizzz just stop, you opened your mouth and removed all doubt.

I am really glad that their kids are healthy and are going to be raised in prosperous surroundings. But, do they have to stick their kids with wierd names? Parents don't think - these kids have to grow up with these names and go thru school with them.

Mariah Careh is so talented and has the voice of an angel and she hooked up with this kid to have KIDS and she is crowning them as her little jewels. She is a nice woman, but this is stupid, poor kids.

So a marriage THREE YEARS long is "making it" or having "staying power"??? If you want to look at a marriage that has lasted, look at Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.....now THERE was a couple with staying power. PUHLEEEEEEESE, give us all a break! Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Nick and Mariah, but let's check back here in 20 years and see if they're still together...then we might say something about their marriage "making it"!

Mariah must still be on medication when she named these babies. Morocco for a boy and Monroe for a girl. The teachers will be so confused with the girl and so will she when she gets older. She will have problems with her gender and want to be a boy later like Cher's daughter. I hope they are kidding and change these children name to something more traditional. Mariah is still weird. Pray for these kids with these parents.

I think Gywnneth Paltrow beat Stefani with naming her daughter, Apple......that's HORRIBLE!!!
