Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Reveal Newborn Twins' Names

Ever since Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's twins -- a boy and a girl -- were born, the singer has been teasing fans, urging them to guess the names of her newborns. But it seems like Mariah's game was a little less than fair.

The couple finally revealed their babies' names on Carey's blog (via Us Magazine). Their baby girl is named Monroe Cannon after Marilyn Monroe -- Carey's icon of inspiration.

Monroe's brother will go by Moroccan Scott Cannon. The top floor of Carey's New York City apartment is called the 'Moroccan Room' due to it's North African aesthetic. The luxurious space is also where Cannon proposed to Carey in 2008. Cannon's son also shares the same middle name, Scott, as his actor dad.

But we shouldn't be shocked by the pair's unconventional naming choices -- their road to marriage was also seemingly off-the-cuff. The pair, who met after Cannon appeared in one of the songstress' music videos, married in April 2008 after a brief two-month courtship. And similarly unexpected, they tied the knot in an intimate, low-key ceremony -- quite the contrast from Carey's 1993 over the top wedding to music executive, Tommy Mottola.

But this odd couple, Carey is 12 years Nick's senior, seems to have a rare industry staying power. And from painted pregnant bellies to Twitter guessing games, this couple proves that all it takes to make it work in Tinseltown is a bit of light-hearted fun.

Congratulations to Carey, Cannon and their one-off brood -- Moroccan and Monroe.

Monroe, maybe (though why not Marilyn?), but Moroccan? Really? I hope the child goes by M. Scott Cannon; I know I would. )Just reread the article; there is symbolism attached (proposal location), so I will temper my disapproval. The problem being, of course, that unless Scott hands out a leaflet with the story every time he meets someone, the symbolism is not known to new people. And how many times will he want to tell the story?

How about a Moroccan name. Monroe sounds like an old mans name. Kids will be called Moron and Monie. I guess I wasn't asked to name them. Why make it so hard on kids. Moroccan Scott. I would name him Scott Moroccan. Good luck kids. Congrats on the babies .

A lady I work with is due next month. I didn't ask her but she made a point in telling me that it was a boy and she had decided to name him EsqMarkel (she wrote it out for me when I said "what"). I told her that I thought the name was stupid. She called me a racist and now refuses to talk to me. That's fine with me because I never liked the b itch anyway.

Those names especially the boy is going to haunt them when they get into school. Cute when babies....however name calling is going to eventually happen unless he goes by Scott. Congrats to the entire family.

honestly, I thought they would name them Niriah (girl) and Mick (boy), that way they are mixing their own names together and giving them to both. Morrocco would have been ok, but Moroccan doesn't have a "name" ring to it.
