'The Tudors' Star Jonathan Rhys Meyers Checks into Rehab

'The Tudors' star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has checked into rehab, again, for alcohol addiction.
The Mirror is reporting that the 33-year-old actor, who has a history of battling alcohol addiction, is said to have spent 10 days at a London clinic last month.
He is believed to have left the facilities due to work commitments.
This is reportedly Meyers' fourth stint at rehab.
The actor last sought help for his alcohol addiction back in May 2010, just days after allegedly abusing airport staff after they banned him from getting on a flight while intoxicated. Meyers was seen drinking cocktails at 7 A.M. at New York's JFK airport where he was due to get on the flight.
The
Daily Mail is reporting that the incident was said to be the final straw for Meyers' long-term girlfriend, Reena Hammer, who reportedly told him, "Check into rehab or I'm dumping you."
Meyers was also previously arrested in 2007 at the Dublin Airport for being drunk and disturbing the peace, though the charges were later dropped.
He was also detained by police in June 2009 at the Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris after allegedly assaulting an employee at a bar while drunk.
Meyers has been brutally honest when he spoke about his issues with alcohol in the past. "When I do drink I'm like Bambi. I'm all over the place like a 16-year-old kid," he said.

Of course, he's a drunk. He's Irish. And, what's going on with that upper lip?

I do know some Irish people who do not drink excessively but not too many! It's sad but true the Irish drink too much, both the men and women! It's unsettling to see an Irish mother drunk around her children, they don't seem to see anything wrong with it. Which is why it is generational.
Pure stereotype. According to recent data from the World Health Organization, Ireland does not even fall in the top 10 countries with respect to alocohol consumption per capita. That being said, the Irish are notoriosly good natured about the stereotype, rather than crying discrimiation.
I liked him in Tudors, but not much else. He is one of these actors that plays a part the same way, no depth. I dont understand these "movie stars" or "celebrities". (sorry for air quotes..lol). They have looks, money and fans who like them no matter what, and they abuse themselves with drugs and alcohol. I guess he has demons and they prefer whiskey...Hope he does better, he is hot (but not in this pic).

Yes, I don"t know either why these successful people have such substance problems. I too loved his portrayal of Henry VIII and the series the "Tudors".
Mary T, it just goes to show that money doesn't buy you happiness. They just have the money to REALLY throw themselves down in the gutter!
ShaSha, a great human being, really? He is an alcoholic who won't get serious help and is an abusive drunk, not a great human being in my book!!
He is such a great actor. Does he know he is harming himself tremendously by drinking excessively? He will age so fast and will look 70 by the time he is 50, not to mention what it will do to his organs. It's a terrible addiction and I hope he kicks the habit this time. Good Luck JRM...

Well he seems to be drunk in airports. Maybe he's afraid of flying and drinks to take the edge off :)

What else is there to do in gloomy Ireland?

Such a good looking man, and talented, that's a shame. He will ruin his looks if he keeps this up, and though he does have talent, without those stunning looks, his talent won't carry him to any real degree. No one is going to check out one of his future movies based on his mad acting skillz, but his great cheekbones and icy blue eyes go a long way!.... Exhibit A: look at Peter O'Toole (who it's a miracle he's still alive). What is it with the Irish and certain Brits that they love the booze so very much? It's like a tradition they MUST carry on.

I am really sorry to hear that Jonathan has been back in rehab. I hope that he is soon well. He has many fans that are routing for him to beat his demons. He is a marvellous actor and I totally disagree with an earlier writer who said he plays all parts the same. I think he has a terrific range and he has taken on a variety of very different roles. All the very best Jonathan, I look forward to seeing that gorgeous smile of yours back on the screen really soon.

In my experience, alcohol abuse is usually a symptom of a deeper problem especially when the person changes into an abusive personality when they are loaded. There is anger about something that even he may not be aware of and the booze just releases the monster. People who do things when they are drunk and blame it on the drink are fooling themselves. That's who they really are and if they want to change they need to make peace with whatever is eating at them. Dealing with the underlying problem with a good councelor would probably do him a world of good. He was good in Bend it like Beckham.
