Is Cameron Diaz Playing the Opposite Game With A-Rod?

In a deliciously saucy interview with Maxim magazine promoting her latest comedy 'Bad Teacher,' actress Cameron Diaz, 38, blasts marriage as a "dying institution" and claims that when it comes to relationships, "old traditions don't suit our world any long."

We assume that means Cam won't be walking down the aisle with her beau Alex Rodriguez any time soon, but we can't help but wondering whether the lady doth protest too much. Cameron seems to know just how to play the game when it comes to men (she gives a detailed recipe for seduction in her Maxim interview that involves doing something you only did in junior high at least once a day).

We're wondering if all her talk about marriage being so stinko isn't a bit of reverse psychology to tempt the Yankee slugger into a more serious relationship.

"Cameron reminds me of a girl I know who always tells her boyfriend she doesn't want a present for her birthday. That girl DOES want a present, and she wants it to be expensive, and she is going to sulk passive-aggressively for at least two weeks afterward when her boyfriend doesn't read her psychic mind signals. Now, I'm not saying Cameron Diaz is like that chick, but if she is, A-Rod, be ready," says Crushable Editor-in-Chief Lilit Marcus.

Even if she isn't pushing for marriage per se, Cam definitely knew how to play her cards in that interview in order to keep A-Rod on the line a little longer.

"Many people have started to question the institution of marriage, not just her. But I do think the lady doth protest a little too much," says The Frisky Editor-in-Chief Amelia McDonell-Parry. "We get it, you don't want to settle down with one person, you think long-term monogamy doesn't work, you like to hump on airplanes, blah blah blah.

McDonell-Parry says she can't help but wonder if Cam is trying too hard to be the low-pressure gal many women assume guys want.

"Maybe it's not that she wants to marry him, just that she doesn't want to lose him just yet?" The Frisky EIC considers.

It's a very suave strategy and one that actually does work, according to love and dating expert Dr. Gilda Carle, author of "Don't Bet on the Prince: How to Have the Man You Want By Betting on Yourself." Men actually do want a low-pressure gal, Gilda says.

"Don't PLAY hard to get; BE hard to get," is Dr. Gilda'a mantra for women.

"Cameron is continuing to do her movies, her product endorsements, and living her life. Men are hunters, and they actually enjoy the chase. When they catch a hard-to-get woman, they think they've won a real prize. A-Rod's past loves all became A-Rod-centered, and lost themselves in HIS life," Carle says.

Maybe we're all too cynical. After spending two decades in Hollywood like Cameron has wouldn't anyone be disillusioned about marriage. The divorce rate on Tinsel Town is what? 70% these days.

"I don't think Cameron would be dating A-Rod if she wanted to get married because he lost that 'husband of the year' award a while back," says life and dating coach Tracey Steinberg. "I tend to believe people who say they don't want to get married and since she's never done it, I believe her. She's gorgeous, hysterically funny and one of the most desirable women in Hollywood...it's not like she's never had the opportunity. If it was legal, I'd marry her!"

Now that's something A-Rod would probably propose for.

I know, Cameron is not all that and either is he. He's a player and just as fast as he dropped Kate Hudson, he'll drop Cameron. These guys just fall in love like you take off you underwears. I just hope to God they are all wearing "CONDOMS" the way the jump from man to man and woman to woman!

Great Marketing Plan and nothing more. Cameron reminds me of Jose Cuervo tequila since even though is one of the brands that sells the most is also the one that really suck.

She is dorky looking with a mouth like the JOKER, has bad skin, twice broken nose, stinks, wears chipped nail polish, and is infertile..that is why she never married. PLUS, she knows all of this and realizes men are just after her for the cheap sex and her money.

It takes a lot of beauty and brains to get a man like A and sadly Cameron doesn't have it on her. I'm sure she is aware.

Cameron Diaz is very beautiful woman inside and out. She is very much the girl next door. There is nothing phony about her. She is not trying to be anything but herself. I like her positive attitude and the way she carry's herself. I like the response she gave about not wanting to marry and have a baby/family. Who knows, people change, she might want to marry and have a family, but that's a huge undertaking, starting a family. You have to be there 24/7 for your children and husband, I believe marriage is overrated these days, I don't think you need to marry, have kids, and take his name. Nothing wrong with just going through life being single, less responsibility other than to yourself. It takes a lot of energy, time, and responsibility to raise a family and keep your life in order. I only have one child and this is a lot of work, he is now 22 but I am still here for him. It never ends. He tells his father and I "he will never marry and have children." We respect his decision, we understand and will abide. It is nice to see the gals he dates are nice but I never put hope into any relationship he has. I see it as his life. As for Cameron Diaz, she has a great sense of humor, a beautiful smile and I love her laugh. She is her own person.

^5 Cameron :o) I love her movies and I respect her decisions. A-Rod knows how lucky he is to have her in his life. I am sure of that. Justin Timberlake knew he was lucky to have her in his life as long as he did, they are both still friends, most relationships should always end as friends.

I love how people talk about her as if they know her. I personally do not, however I agree with the article. She is trying to land a husband! Right girls?

How can someone say that Cameron Diaz is gorgeous, really funny and one of the most desirable women in Hollywood? We see pictures people in the news, we're not blind. Not even Matthew Morrison, who is a regular looking guy wanted to have anything to do with Cam, and her ex-boyfriend Justin defends himself every time the Media says they might be back together again. Stop trying so hard to save the star. Cameron is not all that. Now if she wants to be a real star then she has to start looking and acting like one. She needs more hair, several facial treatments including peels and laser, three nose jobs, a new butt, a great bob job and a face lift since she looks about 50. I will take care of pleasing her sexy boyfriend in many ways while she recovers and gets some rest :0)…
