Meredith Vieira Officially Announces She's Leaving 'Today'

'Today Show' co-host Meredith Vieira is officially leaving the NBC morning show, she announced during Monday's broadcast.

"After months of personal reflection and private conversations between my family and my friends, I've decided to leave 'Today,' in June," she said, sitting next to Matt Lauer and Al Roker.

Vieira, who has co-hosted the show with Lauer for the past five years, said she has decided to spend more time with her husband, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, and their three children.

Ann Curry will take over Vieira's chair, and NBC correspondent Natalie Morales will take over Curry's news desk position.

"I feel like the high school computer nerd who was just asked to the prom by the quarterback of the football team," an emotional Curry said, calling Vieira a "gift to this broadcast" and if it was her choice, Vieira would stay on 'Today.'

Vieira said her goal is to stay in the NBC family, just not on the 'Today Show' couch.

Meridith has made a nice contribution to the professionalism of the show. Matt & Al will hold it together with Ann.

I think Meredith is a sweet women and will be greatly missed.

Maybe when Obama loses the next election, he should get a job on the Today Show? He's good at reading teleprompters!!!!

THANK GOD THAT SHE IS LEAVING!!!! First, she is old, ugly and can't hold a GOOD interview at all!! She was barely able to do the news when she first started there, and they should have left her there. This woman is the worst anchor in TV history!!!!!! She doesn't belong on any couch, she should be serving coffee and cakes!

I can't believe how nasty and vindictive ANONYMOUS posters can be. What has either Meredith or Ann done to help make you so miserable. NOTHING!!

I actually took my two daughters to see "The View," and Meredith couldn't have been nicer. She spent so much time with the audience after the show, signing autographs and posing for pictures. Not a hint of "diva" in her.

I wish Meredith, her husband and family all the best in the future.

I have always enjoyed Meredith on the Today show when i could watch. I also liked Millionaire.

Couric, Viera, Sanchez, .....to be kind I hope they all go on to what makes them happy....now how about some people on TV who have actually DONE something with their lives BEFORE they became celebrities. Stop the popular invasion let's have some substance.

Have a nice retirement Meredith and best wishes to you and your family. Well Matt, I guess you will be doing the "World of Fashion and Today's Women" segments. I'm sure that Ann will take anything of importance. If she doesn't slow down and or let her guessts speak, I will be looking for another show.

Meredith doesn't know what to do without her copious notes in front of her. She just can't remember what she's supposed to say. Ann Curry will be fine. I like her vivacious personality.
