Ralph Macchio Battling 'Serious Pain' Due to Ruptured Cyst

It looks like Ralph Macchio may have to head back to grammar school and park it on the bleachers in lieu of tonight's 'Dancing with the Stars' performance. The original karate kid, 49, is suffering from a ruptured cyst that may prevent him from putting on his dancing shoes.
"Have missed days of rehearsal this week," Macchio
tweeted. "Had a ruptured cyst on the back of my knee causing acute pain. Hoping to be able to perform tonight!"
But hopefully Macchio's injury won't keep him from the dance floor. He and partner,
Karina Smirnoff are one of only five couples left in the race for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. In order to compete during tonight's show, Macchio will have to fight past the 'serious pain' and muster up some extra endurance -- all of the couples will performing two different routines tonight.
According to
People, Macchio has a Baker's cyst, which results from a buildup of extraneous fluid behind the knee. But apparently the injury won't keep this karate kid down.
"Will be rough around the edges w/o rehearse time," Macchio
tweeted. "But performing with @Karina_Smirnoff for u guys is the hi-light of every week. Hangin in!"
But Smirnoff isn't leaving anything up to chance and is asking for help from the big guy upstairs to pull off a miracle.
"We lost 4 days of rehearsals," she
tweeted. "But I couldn't be more proud of @ralphmacchio & his will and desire to continue through pain. Please pray 4 us."
Hopefully Smirnoff will be able to keep things caliente enough for the both of them on the dance floor.

I hope he gets well quick! He is one of my favs, him, Romeo and Kirsty! The judges don't give him the high #'s he deserves, especially the english judge! So unfair!

It's probably from that injury in his first Karate Kid match, where is Miagi when you need him? (pun intended)

That's too bad. Without time to practice he'd be better off ending his time on the show and maintaining his dignity.

As much as I liked Ralph as the Karate Kid not so thrilled with him as an adult. Never liked Karina, so I would not be sad if they could not dance tonight and went home this week.

Why do you not like Karina. is it because she likes ot be with different men instead of being with only one. I think she is one of the best if not the best professioanl female dancer on the show. I guess everyones morals are different. If it was a man having all these different women he would be a stud. why is a women so different-that is becasue this country is so stuck up. A nipple is a nipple and a breast is a breast. Some are bigger than others. Oh I forgot seeing a women's breat in public is bad. I do not agree at all.
not so thrilled with him as an adult? what do you want from him.....he has not been in any movies much because he has devoted his time to his family....that is the making of a great guy....he has not dominated the news with being drunk or on drugs, having a mistress or being a snob.....to me that is super impressive......
I SO hope Ralph will feel well enough to dance tonight!
I really enjoy watching him!! Good luck, Ralph!!

Closely listen to an Inception dvd made before the January 8th Tucson shooting, especially during the dialogue, "Do It."

What the heck are you talking about????????
Listen close you'll hear, "And we hope does," among other things.
I hope they can just drain the cyst, put an ace bandage for support and he can carry on. I want them to win!! Hang in there Danielson! Remember wax on wax off!! You can do it.

Don't think you can drain a RUPTURED cyst.
I've had this happen to me before. It felt like someone shot me in the back of the knee when it happened - totally out of nowhere. I went from walking around at work to using crutches like 0-60. It took me a week to recover and I've never forgotten the pain.

FYI, Kiki, it's "likelihood of his [not "him"] performing tonight." (gerund)

Right on, Mr. Steele. Very good! A gerund requires a possessive form of the noun.

May God be with him. What he is going through is temporary.
Everything does not last. That can be good or bad.
