Five Years Later, Oprah and James Frey to Meet Again

Because one day isn't enough time to confront a guy after you shattered his career into a million little pieces, Oprah Winfrey is setting aside two episodes in her final weeks to interview infamous author James Frey.

Frey will sit down with Winfrey on May 16 and 17 and will probably talk about that one time in early 2006 when she called him out for deceiving her and readers with wild tales of cop-hitting and jail time in his supposed biography 'A Million Little Pieces.'

The show revealed the booking on Tuesday's episode when the announcer deemed it "the biggest controversy in Oprah show history."

The author revealed in a 2009 Vanity Fair interview that Winfrey has already apologized for the televised tush-whooping she gave Frey on her show after he admitted 'Pieces' contained embellishments.

"You conned us all," she said during the shaming, which also included Frey's publisher Nan Talese. "It's embarrassing and disappointing for me."

It was a particularly hard-edged, cringe-inducing episode uncharacteristic of Winfrey's normal persona of a positive life guru.

Since then, the TV icon has seen the error of her methods. According to Frey, Winfrey explained that she now realizes that the legendary ambush was actually about her bruised ego and the pain of having been personally betrayed. She is the one who brought riches and fame upon Frey by selecting 'Pieces' for her book club.

Winfrey's show ends May 25 after 25 years.

I only read the book because his "deception" knocked her off of her broken throne. I couldn't put it down either. Why is it against the law to let Oprah down?

I may not agree with Oprah's politics or religious views but certainly this woman is a force. Her shows turned from the crazy early years that sacked Sally Jessy Raphael, Geraldo, and a lot of others, because she took the money she earned and gave back. Her school in Africa was fantastic and I believe it was the beginning of changing that part of the world. She has given back and caused many people to face their medical problems, their education, their lives. I wish her only the best, no one could interveiw like her.

I would kind of like that she pick better topics or have more special guests but I am satisfied. At least she had Shania Twain, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Rob Lowe, Lady Gaga, David Arquette, and so on.

So I am glad for her. It seems like she is leaving but really she is ending her show to focus more on her network OWN.

You know, this isn't about Frey, this is once again all about Oprah. She has a misguided sense of supreme importance. You have no need to drag him out again, and I wish he would have said, no way. I'm glad she's almost done. I've been done with her ever since she had the show glorifying the lovebirds Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston. She disregarded the domestic violence and joint drug abuse. Then there was that nasty little scandal in her "school". I almost feel sad for her pathetic need to be special and have people love her.

Okay......I know who Oprah Winfrey is, but I haven't had cable TV for many, many years. Who exactly is James Frey? And if he did indeed get busted for lying - adding colourful details that didn't happen to make your autobiographical book more appealing is in fact lying - then what's the big deal? He got caught and made to answer for it. Dude's a grown-up; let him deal with it.

I don`t like Oprah's politics or religious views, and I do not think she is good. But she is very powerfull indeed. Glad her show is finally ending.. but that`s only my point of view. She has millions of fans out there all over the world.

Only thing Frey did wrong was put Memoirs on his book and not non-fiction ....And I'm sure Oprah relates to people who elaborate or embelish over memories of their past .....
