Arnold Schwarzenegger Speaks Lovingly of Estranged Wife Maria Shriver

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver are keeping their separation civil ... so far.

"I want to take a moment and thank our many friends and family for the tremendous amount of support and love that you have given us in the last 24 hours," the actor-turned-governor said on Tuesday night at the 63rd Israel Independence Day Celebration in L.A., Usmagazine reports.

"I just spoke to Maria an hour ago before I came here. We both were saying the same thing – we're extremely blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people, by so many wonderful friends," he added.

"We both love each other very much. We're very fortunate to have four extraordinary children. And we're taking it one day at a time. The bottom line is we want to thank all the people for their great, great support," Schwarzenegger continued.

The couple confirmed the separation after 25 years of marriage in a joint statement released on Monday.

"This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship," the statement read.

"We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives. We consider this a private matter and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment. We ask for compassion and respect from the media and the public."

Whatever Mikey, there are folks who've been here even longer than that who've also never lost their heavy accents. Kudos for their having logged 25 years in a society where divorce ceased to be interesting two generations ago (even if many of them were apparently wrought with unhappiness on her part), but let's face it, they were an odd and somewhat ridiculous coupling right from the beginning.

I hope they will keep working it all out and get back together. 25 years is a lifetime in married years. People change, situations change, but if love is still there, don't give up. When life gets in the middle of a couple its easy to forget why they fell in love in the first place. Pay attention Arnold!!! Don't lose everything over a nothing!

It's even harder to keep things going when you are in the public eye...and even more so, in politics. The fact they have lasted almost 25 years has been amazing. I hope they can work things out and I'm glad they are staying civil.

Mike, I know people that have been in this country a lot longer than he has and still have their original accent...especially if they came here as adults. Some do not want to lose their accent. It's part of their heritage. And if they have family members or others around that immigrated from the same area, it makes it even easier to keep it.

I think seeing her on You Tube asking questions about starting over shows when all is said and done she is just a woman who is starting over after 25 yrs of marriage and they were together for several years before they married. She is in pain from the look on her face. I dont want to see any marriage end but he is a jerk. She is lucky she has millions and wont be on welfare like most women who divorce a jerk and is left with nothing.
