'The Biggest Loser' Star Jillian Michaels Adopting a Baby From the Congo

'The Biggest Loser' trainer Jillian Michaels is planning to adopt a baby from the Congo.
UsMagazine.com is reporting that the aspiring mom revealed to them that she has completed all the necessary paperwork and is now just waiting for the call to go and pick up her new baby boy or girl.
Michaels is quoted saying, "My dossier, which is your paperwork portfolio, is in to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. So the paperwork is done, and now it's just a waiting game."
She continues, "It could be six months, twelve months; it could be two years. Or, it could be tomorrow! They call you and they say, 'Oh, we have your referral,' which is essentially the child they match you up with, and you go overseas and you get him or her."
The 37-year-old trainer landed in hot water last year when she told
Women's Health that she would rather adopt an African baby as opposed to getting pregnant.
Michaels said, "I can't handle doing that to my body. Also, when you rescue something, it's like rescuing a part of yourself."
Later, in an interview with the
New York Times, she addressed the callous-sounding comments, explaining that she has endometriosis and listed a
laundry list of reasons she couldn't get pregnant. She said she felt "ashamed" because people expect her to be the "healthiest woman in the world."
"The reality is that I have endometriosis, and I most likely couldn't get pregnant. I've had the X-rays, my tubes are closed, the uterine lining is too thick, blah, blah, blah. I was ashamed about it because I thought I'm supposed to be the healthiest woman in the world, and what does this say about me if I can't have kids of my own. It was insecurity, which I have to work on."

Is there a reason why No one adpts from the US anymore? is it cool to adopt outside this country? What I am missing here?

I agree. Stop adopting from outside. Adopt within the U.S. we have kids here that need loving homes.
Could it be too many Americans want their kids back and because it is such a headache and so difficult to get a child they sit in the governments broken down system? I know severral people that wanted a child & could care for a child emotionally and financially that were refused...much lies in the hands of the worker you get & their "preferences". Being rescued from the life of an orpahn in the Congo is pretty noble. Our worst is about the best over there.
Google "Baby Richard" and see why.
It is fashionable for stars to adopt outside US. Notice you never see any news of US adoptions.
We're all humans and it's all one world. There's no "American and everybody else."
An orphaned kid has virtually no future in Africa where they'll probably end up exploited on the street. An American orphan has (however meager) some support from the system and, with some luck, has a chance at a good future. Given the choice, I'm going to choose to bring the African kid over to America and balance out their chances of a good future.
What you are missing is the fact that USA makes trying to adopt an absolute nightmare. My sister-in-law adopted from Russia after being told that there was a five to ten year waiting list her and her husband would be on to adopt from here, and in that time would pretty much be put under a microscope. I agree that they need to make sure you will be a good parent, but they go beyond rediculous.
What about the woman that adopted the Russian boy? She didn't like him, or they didn't get along so she put him on a plane, unsupervised by himself, and sent him back to Russia, how cruel is that?
You are missing the fact that it is extremely difficult to adopt in the US. There are more potential parents than there are babies and most everyone wants a baby. Older children are harder to adopt. I know several people who have adopted from other countries just because it's cheaper and quicker and less red tape.
I think people who adopt make a great decision (helps a child), and it shouldn't matter which country they get the child from. Stop judging someone who is doing a good deed, no matter what country. Did you ever stop to think why people are adopting outside the US? Get the facts first before you criticize--they is more red tape here than you can imagine.
America makes WAY TO HARD to adopt an American child. If you think you go thru rigor mortis at the airports.....TRY adopting American. It'll take you a good ten years before you can Adopt American. Lets not forget money.........too much time & money to adopt American.
thats because people want a baby, its understandable as far as i am concerned. i have known at least 3 people who have been foster parents, and already 3 or 4 the poor children have been through so much there is a great likelihood they have they have permanent damage.
a bonobo for the Congo?

I think she doesn't want to mess up her body. Babies do change your body. I think it would be humbling if she got fat and saw what her victims go through.

Cher thankyou yes she needs to feel there pain. Her victims that is
Jillian was a fat tweener and teen. She does know the pain her victims go thru. Learn something before you trash someone. She is the trainer she is because she has been there and done that.
Learn your facts Wendy ... Jillian liked to say she was fat and so that she knew what her victims are going through. Then it came out that during her "fat" period as a teenager she weighed 140 pounds! Hardly obese! I haven't heard her say that she was fat since that came out ... funny how the truth makes even the most obnoxious people shut up.
Well, at 12-14 years old and MAYBE 5 ft tall, yes 140 lbs is fat. She knows what they're going through.
5ft and 140 pounds still is no where near what obese people go thru. That is more like water weight. The people on the biggest loser are three times their normal weight. She made flip remarks and then lied about being fat and "understanding", she should be ashamed of herself.
I have no problems with her not wanting to go through getting pregnant...we'd be better off if more people were smart enough that when you can't or probably couldn't get pregnant they adopt.
What I do wonder is why is it that so many people prefer to adopt outside the US?
We have so many American children that could use a home with a loving parent or parents...it seems such a crime to not adopt here.
