Was Mariah Carey Reported for Drinking in the Hospital?

All new parents have their hands full, but
Mariah Carey and husband
Nick Cannon also dealt with a very unexpected visitor in the hospital where their daughter and son, Monroe and Moroccan, were born April 30.
"Child Protective Services actually came to me," Cannon told Piers Morgan on CNN Thursday, "And said that they were here to see me because there had been allegations that there was drug and alcohol use during the stay in the hospital."
But it's hardly as scandalous as it sounds: Cannon believes someone involved in Carey's care was overheard discussing a beer that allegedly boosts breastmilk production. Many moms of twins receive lactation tips specific to the challenges of feeding two newborns, but most can probably count on more privacy than Mariah Carey.
"It all started when a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness, the dark beer, the yeast improves breastfeeding," Cannon added. "I don't know if someone heard that [and] were saying my wife was drinking beer. People will do anything to try to conjure up a story."
Cannon's theory is that a mundane conversation became a wild rumor only because of the new mom's celebrity. According to
Us, he said the rep responding to information about alcohol in the patients' room understood the circumstances and agreed the allegation was ridiculous.
"To even have to deal with that, with my wife in the state that she's in while we're in the hospital, to even have to think about someone possibly wanting to investigate your children," Cannon said. "It's sad at the end of the day...when you think about people trying to make a buck off newborn babies."
Guinness beer tips aside, nursing twins is serious business for some moms, as 'Modern Family' star
Julie Bowen proudly explained during a chat with George Lopez last year. On the other hand, twin mom
Jennifer Lopez caused a
mini-scandal in the parenting blogosphere when she confidently told People magazine she was forgoing breastfeeding altogether.

I feel sorry for her mulatto kids.

Mulatto? Both Mariah and Nick are black.
The names constitute child abuse.

Back when my daughter was born in 1975, the hospital served a special dinner the night before I went home. It was my husband and I alone, to celebrate, and the hospital served us a small bottle of champagne. I wasn't breast feeding so I drank it. You can also pump ahead of time if you know you will have a drink and give the babies the pumped milk. I don't think its an issue. If you try to call CPS to warn about a kids getting beaten, they most likely won't get involved. CPS is a joke!

When I had my first in the mid-80's, my ob-gyn said a little wine would be fine to relax me and make it easier to breatfeed. Four years later, when I had my second child, the hospital also had the dinners for new parents. They also served a small bottle of wine and said it was okay even though I was nursing. Times change. And yes, it seems that a number of these CPS offices are jokes, not protecting the kids that need protecting and going after parents that might have made one minor misstep.
why is this news?

How many mean spirited people are on this site. Can't you just live and let live? I am sure you call yourselves good Christians, if so where is your Christian charity? Shame on you!

Oh, please! I appreciate all that CPS does but because of the word beer being mentioned!?! This seems like CPS has a lot of time on their hands with nothing better to do!

Look how fast Child Protective Services came to Mariah and Nick when there are other cases that are far more serious, and this they never show up for that child. To the person that called the CPS should have found out the facts to understand why Marian had a beer and they would have learned this helps her about stimulating breast milk. People jump to the conclusion too fast. To the person who wrote the story shame on you too.

I have also been told about the beer thing to increase milk production, but I tried a prescription drug Metoclopromide, that I guess is prescribed frequently at the NICU unit at large hospitals. It is off-label use, but it works incredibly well! NO harm to the baby either. The only reason we know about Nick and Mariah is because they just happen to be celebreties and for some reason, we the general public seem to think "their" business is "our" business. Enough! They deserve the same privacy we the non-famous get when we are in the hospital.

As a mother who nursed four children, my pediatrician told me to drink beer or take yeast supplements. It helps increase milk production. You may have taken Metoclopromide for the same thing but, as an RN also, there are serious possible side effects to this medication. Tardive dyskinesia is very serious & sometimes it is permanent even after stopping the medication. Most MDs that I have worked with in the past few years don't even use it anymore for its original indication because there are other medications that are much safer. Drink a beer (not several) it is a lot safer for mom.
ok A. Why is this news B. when I had my daughter who is now seven months the hospital told us we could bring a bottle of champagne in to celerbrate her birth! C. what is so wrong with formula feedings people keep making a big deal out of breast feeding! I tried to breast feed my daughter but I wasn't producing enough milk! my daughter gets formula and is fine my nieces were both formula fed and were fine what is the big deal anyway!?

When Child Protective Services run out of children, they run out of jobs. Got to keep the Title IV flowing. The smell of money seems to bring out the roaches.

It's actually the hops in the beer, not the yeast, and it can be consumed easily in the form of non-alcoholic beer. That and pineapple juice were regular staples in my house for the first year after each of my boys. Another good galactigant is fenugreek, which canbe taken in the form of herbal capsules.

Whats the big deal of drinking a couple of beers in a hospital? Hospitals do serve a beer if the patient has a doctors order. I cannot believe all this fuss over a beer . big deal.

I have given birth to three children and when a woman can't produce milk, drinking a few sips of beer isn't an old wives tale. The nurses themselves suggested that in my situation. Someone just wanted to make a mockery of this couple just because they are celebrities. People just need to mind their own business and look into their own closet.
