Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have made it no secret that they hope to cut back on their hours solving crimes on 'Law & Order: SVU.' Now, sources say another veteran TV star is eyeing a role as Hargitay's replacement: Jennifer Love Hewitt. The former 'Ghost Whisperer' star is in talks to step in as the new partner of Elliot Stabler (Meloni), after Det. Olivia Benson (Hargitay) is promoted in the precinct to a supervising position mid-season, TV Line reports.
Hargitay has signed a deal to return for the 13th season of 'SVU,' but working fewer hours at the same salary. Meloni hasn't yet signed his deal, but is reportedly asking for a raise.
Hewitt has also not signed a deal yet. The actress appeared on the series earlier this season during an episode that brought attention to the problem of rape kit backlogs in police precincts across the country; Hewitt played a woman who was stalked and raped by a man for 15 years.

IMO, no one can replace Mariska and definitely not Jennifer.

I'm not seeing JLH replacing Mariska. She played an amazing part on the show as a rape victim and I would always see her in that role.

it's the best show on TV, and if this change is made, then the show will suck..........

Jennifer Love Hewitt is a one expression actress, and it is a goofy expression. She seemed burnt out on Ghost Whisperer, and so was her audience. BAD mistake to put her on SUV. If they do, it will not last. She is just not a strong enough actress.

I never saw the episode when the Jennifer Love Hewitt (a.k.a. the 'Cleavage Whisperer' appeared,
but, as the article indicates, I am sure that police stations around the country were bombarded with inquiries about why there was any backlog on rape kits...

I hate that show,I don't care if they replace them all with a bunch of billy goats.

It will never be the same without Mirissa Hargitay.

She will be there, in a new role (granted, with less time on screen). It could be an interesting direction for the show, if we can allow it to change and grow—after all, detectives DO get promoted in real life; it makes sense that one of them would be after the length of time the show has been on. Best luck to the new SVU, and may they use a creative approach to finding Eliot an new partner.
I will quit watching if JLH replaces Hargitay. I have been watching it for years and love the relationship between Benson and Stabler and I wouldnt want it to change.

I like JLH but as everyone agrees and so do I that it wont be the same without Mariska Hargitay and Meloni. And i wont watch it anymore. Just reruns.

I like Jennifer Love Hewitt, but she doesn't seem like the right fit to play the tough, female cop.

No way to hide those childbearing hips and marshmallow thighs in
lady cop attire. The woman's head doesn't look like it belongs on her body. Get any of the Homicide Life On The Street women to be the replacement.

That's crazy. Without Benson they should just cancel the show. They've been a team for years and to remove and replace one of them is just a horrid move. The Benson and Stabler team is the show. No doubt.

With all due respect, grow up! In real life, people do get promoted, and those around make adjustments. What a great opportunity for that team to interact in a new way! I think it is great that she is staying on, with new responsibilities—how will Eliot handle the fact that she was promoted, not him? How will the new partner fit in?
I agree that JOH is not the right replacement—too close to MH in appearance. go with something that can bring us a new dynamic, and the show a new leg on life. We will always have the reruns and DVDs of the show as it is now; why not let it evolve? It could be a really interesting proposition.
NO, NO, NO. I love Hargitay!!! I don't know how I feel about that replacement. Let's not even THINK about replacing that hunk Stabler now. ;)

Jennifer Love Hewitt...ho hum...

here what I think should done they should not I repeat should not replace Olivia with another female cop to many people having fallen in love with Elliot & Olivia .
And by putting another female with Elliot it upsetting a lot of fans so remember Danny that didn’t end well I’m sure so SVU you better think about this or your show will met the faith of so many other good shows that made such bad choices.

Angie Harmon would be the perfect replace, Jennifer Hewitt is just not the type for that role

If Jennifer Love Hewitt is cast they can kiss the show goodbye. She is a TERRIBLE actress! Laughable even. Cast an unknown NYC trained actress! SVU needs talented not talentless.

NBC - PLEASE DO NOT PUT Jennifer Love Hewitt on to replace Mariska. I would prefer if Mariska stayed on. There is no one like her. Meloni and her have great chemistry. As someone posted earlier - they should have two sets of detectives and alternate them (but that would cut Meloni's time).
