Princess Beatrice's Royal Hat Passes $30,000 Mark on eBay

With just under three days of bidding left, the whimsical hat Princess Beatrice wore to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding has surpassed 20,500 GBP (approximately $33,000) on eBay.

Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie made waves when they turned up at the royal wedding sporting some very flamboyant hats. Although many guests arrived in very fancy headgear, the daughters of Sarah Ferguson, who was infamously banned from the festivities, definitely took the cake.

After all the hoopla surrounding her hat, the princess decided to auction off the gravity-defying pink number by British designer Philip Treacy for charity. Ferguson confirmed to Oprah Winfrey last week that Beatrice was "putting it up on eBay to auction it for UNICEF and for Children in Crisis."

In the eBay description, Princess Beatrice writes, "I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted. It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have."

She also seems to have a sense of humor about the ridicule the hat has generated. The listing includes photos of Photoshopped memes and a link to the hat's Facebook page.

Bidding ends on May 22 at 9 AM PDT.

Amazing. Someone has a lot of money to throw away buying that monstrosity. I could sure use 30 grand, but I do not even wear hats so can not sell one....

OMG, how could anyone possibly have enough nerve to wear something so hideous? When both sisters got out of their auto, the first thing I thought was that they looked exactly like a pair of racoons (note their eyes).

You are spot on! The Facinater would look stunningly beautiful if worn on the back of her head, with her lovely hair swept up from the front to the rear, as a ribbon beneath that fabulous pink bow. I think it is a bow, and someone should have shown Beatrice the correct way of wearing it. The charities should do very well with this donation.

That hat reminds me of an old cushy soft toilet seat my Parent's had back in the 80's.
They threw it out. Should kept it made something out of it ... (hat).

After all the bad rap she has received for wearing the hat it is great that she has decided to sell it and donate the proceeds to charity. I tip my hat to her (no pun intended). She seems to be a nice person who handled the bad press well.

It certainly is wonderful that ugly hat is going to make alot of money for charity. But hopefully whoever spends the 30g's will put that hat out of its misery when they get it. She should also auction off that black crayon that she used to draw around her eyes.

She is definitely the ugly sister. Eugenie is beautiful but Beatrice didn't get the family good looks--she's average at best. She might have slimmer figure but she's not what I'd call pretty. Maybe if she didn't have those raccoon bug-eyes and horribly out of proportion features--poor thing--she got the worst of both parents while Eugenie has a gorgeous face but is definitely a chubster.
