This morning on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM on ABC), U2's Bono and the Edge were presented with a rather scathing review of their mega-musical 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' from the New York Times. The review, which said that "it may rank amongst the worst musicals ever made," had to sting a little, considering Bono and the Edge wrote the music for the show. But in a surprising twist, Bono said he and his U2 bandmate don't necessarily disagree.Julie Taymor, who directed the Broadway adaptation of 'The Lion King,' left the project and it has been rewritten and re-launched in previews. "Julie would not accept this, but she got very close to it," said Bono. "So close perhaps that she couldn't see it. And we were going at it and coming back, and we could see very clearly what we thought were the problems."
Bono said the characters and plot are better drawn in the new version, and they've fixed a lot of "obvious stuff." The most obvious hopefully would be the rigs that lift the actors and other safety hazards that have plagued the show and made it an easy punch line.

Broadway just gets worse every year. Look for it's final demise when Lady Gaga stars as Cruella de Vil in 'Disney's 101 Dalmations: The Musical'.

101 Dalmations: The Musical, has already appeared on Broadway!
I knew Gaga reminded me of someone, she's a living Cruella de Vil. Thanks for the laugh!
The New Yorker review said that the aerial effects were great, but the book and the music sucked. It sounds like they need to start from scratch, though it will probably be pretty popular, just for the spectacle.

I saw Spiderman a few months ago. While it was not very good it was not the worst I have seen. But one thing was clear...the music was AWFUL!
